UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. PFLUEGER, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
EYELETlNG-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,261, dated February 2,1892.
Application filed May 21,1891- Serial No. 393,599. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. PFLUEGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVasher-Feeder Mechanism for Riveting-Machines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation partly in section and broken away. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the table with the arm I) and lever D in section. Figs. 3, 4C, and 5 are detail views.
This invention has relation to washer-feeding attachments for riveting-machines; and it consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as herein after specified.
In the accompanyingdrawings, illustrating the invention, the letter A designates the main arm or lever of the machine and operating the die-carrying plunger 13.. At the rear of its pivot I) the leverA carries a stud or pin 0, which engages a cam-slot (Z of a vertical oscillating lever D, pivoted to the arm D of the machine. At its lower portion this lever is connected to a horizontal feed rod or piston E, working at its forward end in the guide E on the table of the frame. The operation of the plunger-operated lever oscillates the lever D, giving a horizontal reciprocating movement to the feed rod or piston.
F is the socket-die where the riveting is performed, and to the rear of the die is the washer-holder or feedtube F, removably held in the frame and opening into the piston-guide E in the path of the stroke of the piston. A rod or piston II, actuated by a spring or a weight K, forces the washers upwardly in the tube, feeding them into the guideway E. The forward stroke of the feed rod or piston forces the washer to the socketdie in position for the riveting, andthe movement is so timed that this will be done just previous to the downward stroke of the plunger B. When the feed-rod E is carried back as the plunger is raised, another washer is fed into the guideway for the next operation. The rod H may be actuated either by the cord and weight S or by the coiled spring T, as shown in Fig. 5. Said rod works ina guide L in the lower frame-piece, and is provided with a catch I, which, when the rod is forced downwardly sufficiently to bring said catch below the guide, will-engage said guide, holding the rod down and permitting the washertube to be removed for refilling.
The washertube may be held in place by means of the flange or lug M, formed on one side thereof, which engages a catch N on the table of the frame. By disengaging the flange from the catch and lowering the feed-piston H the tube may be readily removed.
It is obvious that the feed-tube and guideway may be shaped according to the style of nut or cap which it is desired to use.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a riveting machine, the combination, with the table, the plunger or riveting-die, the socket-die thereunder, and the horizontallyreciprocating feed-arm operated by an oscillating lever having a cam connection with the main arm of the machine, of the feedtube removably secured in the table and discharging upwardly into a guide through which said horizontal arm reciprocates, a feed-piston in said tube, and a spring-catch device in said piston adapted to engage a guide through which said piston works, whereby it may be held down to allow the feedtube to be removed, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. GEORGE A. PFLUEGER. lVitnesses:
