SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,103, dated February 2, 1892.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE F. STILLMAN, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the Stat-e of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Type-lliriter Cases,ot' which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description. i My invention relates to the cases used to inclose type-writing machines, and particularly to the means by which the case proper 1s secured to the board under the machine, which board constitutes the bottom of the case.

My object is to produce an improved portable type-writing-machine case by providing it with an improved mechanism for securing the case to the bottom board, consisting in sliding bolts mounted within the board and adapted to engage with the lower portions of' two of the vertical walls of the case when pushed or made to slide therein.

My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereto annexed. It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side and vertical sectional elevation of the case and the bottom board and one of the locking-bolts unlocked. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same locked. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the case, showing hooks adapted to engage with the front ends of the bolts and also a padlock in one of them. Fig. 4. is a rear elevation showing the guide-notches and bolts. Fig. 5 is a top plan of the bottom board broken away to show the bolts parallel in their seats. Fig. 6 is a like view showing a Y-shaped bolt. Fig. 7.is a plan view of the ends of the bolt or bolts.

A is the case of ordinary construction and provided in its rear face with the beveled guide-notches a and the holes h above them and in its front face with slots d.

B is the bottom board, upon which the machine ordinarily stands. In this board I place or mount in suitable seats the sliding bolts m, either parallel, as shown in Fig. 5, or in a Y form, as shown in Fig. 6. Upon the rear end of each of the bolts I form the hook m', and upon the front end of each I form the staple m.

As shown in Fig. l,when the bolt is pushed back the ease is unlocked, and then when the case is put on its rear edge will come down between the board and the frontof the hook 'nl guided by the guide-notches a when they are used with beveled sides, as in Fig. 4, and the front edge will fall in front of the staple mf, and then when the bolt is shoved forward the point of the hook m will enter the hole c in the rear of the case and the staple on the front end will enter the slot d in the front thereof and the case is secured to the board. 'lheY form shown in Fig. 6 operates in the same manner, except that all three of the connections are made at the same time.

Auxiliary hooks In are pivoted upon the front of the case when desired, adapted to hook into the projecting staple formed oirth front end of the bolt; also, a padlock or padlocks may be used, if desired, as shown in Fig.

lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination, with the case provided in its rear lower edge with beveled notches and apertures above and adjacent thereto, but separate therefrom, and in its front lower edge with slots above and adjacent to said edge, of the bottom board and the sliding bolts mounted therein, provided with hooked ends, the rear hooks entering said notches and apertures and the front ones entering and projecting outward beyond the slots in the front of the case when the bolts are drawn forward.
