UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY LEVY, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ADOLPH HIRSH, OF SAME PLACE.
DEVICE FOR HOLDING COVERS ON PICTURE-FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,701, dated January 26, 1892.
Serial No. 375,958. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY LEVY, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Covers on Picture-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to securing devices for the covering of frames, by which gauze or any other material for covering such frames may be held securely thereto, of which Figure 1 shows a triangular piece of metal or other suitable material with flanges on two of its sides, one of which is intended for insertion between the frame and the picture or between the frame and the glass, and also showing the opening-slot through which the tape projects. Fig. 2 is a View of the inside of the triangular piece of metal with its flanges and spring-drum, upon which the tape which projects through the slot is wound. Fig. 3 shows the rear of picture-frame with hook, by means of which the tape is held. Fig. at shows the front of a picture-frame with the attachment in place and tape secured by the hook on top of the frame. Fig. 5 is an edge View of the attachment with its flanges.
A is a triangular piece of metal provided on two of its sides with the flanges a and a secured upon the inside of a picture-frame, as shown in Fig. 4:, by inserting the flange a strip, and may be provided on its end WILFRM ring or hook. It will thus be seen that when the picture is covered over its surface with any suitable material and the flanges a of the metallic plate are inserted upon the covering, so as to be securely held thereon, the tape 1) is pulled out, thus unwinding the spring-drum and holding the tape by an elastic tension, the other end of which may be secured by any suitable fasteningdevice upon the edge or rear of the picture-frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- A clasp for a picture-cover, consisting of the metallic strip A, provided with the flanges a and 03in combination witha spring-drum secured to the clasping device, the tape Z), wound upon thedrum, and means for securing the end of the tape to the frame, substantially as described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 12th day of December, A. D. 1890.
' HENRY LEVY.
