UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB M. HENRIQUEZ, OF CORO, VENEZUELA.
GAM E-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,373, dated January 19, 18921.
Application iiletl September 28,1891. Serial No. 407,019. (No model.)
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB M. HENRIQUEZ, of Coro, Venezuela, South America, have invented a new and useful Gaine Board, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object ot'l this invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device with which a game for amusement may be played that will afford recreation for youth or adults and which is innocent and entertaining.
To this end my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter' described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure lis a perspective View of the device ready for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2 in Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3 3 in Figs. l and 2.
The base of the device consists of a preferably rectangular structure, the four walls c a a2 da of which are joined at the ends in a substantial manner, said walls being joined by a bottom wall b. l Across the base a transverse Wall c is secured by its ends that join two parallel side walls a a', and from the center of the cross -wall c a division-wall e is extended to join the rear side wall a2 of the base. There is another division-wall g, introduced between theI front wall a3 and cross-wall c, thereby producing a receptacle h, thatis sealed below by the bottom piece b, and said charnber is also subdivided by a wall g. The junction of walls, as has been described, provides another shallow box t'.
Between the division-wall c and side Wall a a tilting table m is pivotally supported to rock, the pivots m being near to the wall e and engaged with perforations in the walls c and a2.
The receptacle h h is covered by a lid 7i', and in the space between the partition-wall g and side wall a a vibrating slide-board a is pivoted to said walls near its longitudinal center, as at o in Figs. l and 3.
There is a trigger-barp, pivoted in a slot in the bottom wall b below the tilting table m, so that one end will bear upon the lower side of said table. At the opposite end of the triggerbar, which extends below the slide-board, n a finger p projects therefrom,- so as to loosely engage the lower surface of said slide-board near to the wall c, shown in Fig. 3.. The relative weights of the table m and slide-board n that are imposed upon the trigger-bar p should be nearly equal, that of the board n slightly preponderating. Above the base a 6o vertical tubular conduit fr is erected by an engagement of its lower end portion with three brace-rods s, that also have an attachment upon the walls c and a2 ofthe base. The conduit r is forked at its upper end at 0", pro- 65 ducing two branch pipes r2, and at right angles to these branch pipes two other deliverypipes r3 r4 project oppositely from the conduit j at its lower end. The delivery-pipes r3 r4 are respectively located above the box il and tilt- 7o ing table m. The upper terminals of the branch pipes r2 are funnel-shaped, to allow spherical balls, such as u' in Fig. 2, to be readily inserted into either branch pipe. There is a vertical diaphragm-wall t, located upon the inner surface of the conduit r at its lower end, which wall is seated on the j unction-point of the two delivery-pipes r3 r4, as shown in Fig. 2, said diaphragm serving to direct the ball a when it falls down the con- 8o duit r into either one of the delivery-pipes, and if the base is located on a level support it will be difcult to guess which of the pipes the ball will traverse.
There may be several games played with the novel gaine-board. A description of one will suffice.
Any number of players may engage in the game and a proper number of balls u are provided, and also a number of counters, such as 9o is represented at fu in Fig. l.
To determine who shall lead in the gaine, two balls are successively dropped through either of the branch pipes r2 the player may select. It one of the balls tips the table m and dislodges a counter o from the slide-board n by its elevation at the inner end, and the other ball enters the box t', the player may have another chance for the lead. Should both balls go into the box o, the next player Ioo takes the play for the lead, and should any player deposit both of the balls onto the table m he has the lead without further trial. After the lead has been determined the players each deposit a counter of equal represent-ative value upon the lid 71 and' then'the gaine proceeds, and the first player who puts his bail upon the table m and tips the slide-board n so as to dislodge a counter therefrom Wins the game, or, if preferred, may count the aggregate values on the counters aspoints in a game that may 'consist of any predetermined number of points. Preferably but one ball is allowed to a player at one trial in the game.
The two divisions h of the front compart ment may be used to hold the series of balls u and counters n when the game-board is not in use.
lHaving thus described my invention, what I claimasnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y Y 1.l A game-board havinga tilting table and arockingf` slide-board therein, a vertical'- tu# bularconduit supported'on saidgame-'board andpro'vided with branch pipes at :its ends disposed, respectively,vat atri'ght angle Lo'each other; and` a central vertical: diaphragm, substantially as "showny and described;
2. A'game board consisting ofy a base divided into compartments and having a tilting table rand` a'rocking-slide-board therein, and a Vertical tubularl conduit supported on the base, provided with branch receiving-pipes at its upper end and branch delivery-pipes at its lower'end disposed at a right angle to the upper branch pipes, and a central vertical diaphragm, substantially as shown and described.
8. In a game-board, the combination, with a base divided into compartments, a tilting table in said base, and a rocking slide-board in the base actuated by the tilting table, of a vertical' tubular conduit supported on the base, provided'with branch receiving-pipes at its upper end and branch delivery-pipes at its lower end, the lower pipes disposed at a right yanglefto theupper pipes, a central vertical' diaphragm in said conduit at the junction of 'the' deliverypipes, balls adapted to traverse'said` conduit, vand a set ofcounters, substantially as shown and described.`
