GEORGE W. SCRIBNER, OF OHATHAM, OANADA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES A. BAGWELL, OF SAME PLACE.
FLUE-PIPE IN REED AND PIPE ORGANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,337, dated January 19, 1892.
Application filed June 1, 1891- Serial No. 394,800- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SORIBNER, of Chatham, in the county of Kent and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and usefullmprovementinFlue-Pipesin Oombination Pipe and Reed Organs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my improvement is to combine with the flue-pipe of an organ in which reeds I0 are used a tone-regulating device by which a series of pipes can by the aid of a suitable stop or indicator be quietly and simultaneously brought into accord with the reeds in changes of the atmosphere as indicated by the thermolneter. 1 attain this object by the mechanism illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of a front view of my improved organ-pipe with themovable lip attached. Fig. 2 is a View of thereverse side of the flue-pipe, Fig. 1, showing the tone-regulating device. Fig. 3 is a front View of Fig. 1, the lip L being removed to show the enlarged opening at the mouth. Fig. 4 repre- 2 5 sents a perspective of part of an organ-action, partly in section, and containing reeds, as described in mypatent, No. 441,589, November 25, 1890, showing part of a series of flue-pipes in position with the tone-regulator T attached. o Similarlettersrefertosimilarpartsthroughout the several views.
Pin Figs. 1, 2, and 3 represents myimproved flue-pipe.
L in Fig. 1 represents an adjustable lip used in voicing the pipe, which may be of metal or 3 5 any suitable material.
P, Fig. 2, is a View of the reverse side of Fig. 1.
S is the opening or narrow slot in the body of the pipe. 40
T is the adjustable tone-regulator attached near or over the slot S and controlling the pitch of the tone of the pipe P.
M in Figs. 1 and 3 represents the speakingmouth of the pipe.
In voicing the pipe the lip L enables me to adjust the mouth of the pipe so as to control the changed character of the tone caused by the slot S.
The tone-regulating device, which may be adjusted in any, convenient form, will be found to be ample in compass for all probable changes of weather.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A flue-pipe provided with slot S and regulator T, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore described and shown.
2. In an organ containing one or more series of reeds, keys, and valves, the combination, with the controlling mechanisms,of a flue-pipe provided'with slot S and regulator T, substantially as shown and described.
