UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
HENRY M. IVEAVER, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE BARR CASl-l AND PACKAGE CARRIER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CASH AND PACKAGE CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,686,dated December 22, 18991.
Application filed March 18, 1891. Serial No. 385,524. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY M. WEAVER, of Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cash and Package Carriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvementin propelling apparatus for cash and package carrying apparatus, the object being to afford novel means of attachment for the movable wire of apparatus of this character; and it consists in the usual double-track wires, in connection with the means for attaching these wires and spreading them, and in certain other novel features of construction and combination of parts, as willbehereinafter described,
and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a viewin side elevation of a portion of the apparatus, showing the novel features. Figs.
2 and 3 are details, and Fig. 4: is a section on line 00 a: of Fig.
3 represents a hanger depending from the ceiling or other support in the usual manner. To the lower end of this hanger is attached a casting A. The lower part of the latter is preferably flat and of suificient thickness to receive a pulley D between its wallsor sides. Integral with the casting and extendingrearwardly therefrom is an arm 0. A pair of flat 5 bars F F are pivotally supported at their rear endsfon the arm C and pass on either side of the casting A. The track-wires K K are connected, respectively, to the bars F F and the lower end of the casting A, as shown, the
former connection being yielding and the latter rigid.
As the peculiar connection with the bars F F constitutes the essential feature of my invention, I will proceed to describe it in de- 5 tail. A rod or block II is pivoted in the free ends of the bars F F, as shown in Fig. 3. Red 1 passes loosely through a hole in this block, thus permitting a free sliding movement. Spiral spring P is mounted on this bolt, bearing at one end against the block II and at the other against a nut L. The latter is adapted The track-wire K is at- 4 wires taut.
tached to the outer end of the rod P. Cord N is connected at point M to the bars F F and passed over pulley D, its free end extending down within easy reach of the operator, where it is furnished with a handle 0. By drawing down on this handle the free ends of the bars F F are elevated, and the Wires are thus spread apart back of the wheels of the carrier Q, whereby the latter is propelled. As the swivel H rises springP is com.- pressed and the swiveled block l-I turns, allowing the rod J to maintain the position assumed by the track-Wire K attached to it. The spring allows of the retreating motion of the bars at their free ends, assists the return to their normal positions, and keeps the It is evident that slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth; but,
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters 8c Patent, is l l. The combination, with a fixed and movable support and track-wires connected with said support, of a block pivoted in the movable support and means for yieldingly connecting one of the track-wires with the pivoted block, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a fixed support and a track-wire secured thereio, ot a support hinged at one end to the fixed support, a block pivoted in the free end of this support, and a track-wire having ayielding slidable connection with the block, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of a hanger, a track- 5 wire secured thereto, bars pivotally connected to the hanger, a block pivoted in the free ends of the bars, a bolt passing loosely through the block, a spring on the bolt, and a track-wire HENRY M. WEAVER. lVitnesses:
