Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
BENJN. A. EARL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED LUBRICANT FOR WOOL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 16,551, dated February 28, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, B. A. EARL, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Lubricant; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention consists of the use for lubricating purposes of milk combined with borax. I take about one gallon of milk and dissolve in the same about three and a half ounces of borax.
I have found after many careful practical tests that this composition forms an excellent and economical substitute for lubricants heretofore used in the preparation of wool and other fibrous material to be manufactured into textile fabrics, the composition being used precisely in the same manner as oils have been heretofore applied for the same purpose.
The composition may also be used wherever oil has been heretofore employed for lubrication.
If deemed desirable, lard-oil or other oils may be mixed with the composition before its application to the Wool or other fibrous material; or the composition may be appliedwith advantage after the wool has been treated in the usual manner with the oils heretofore employed for the same purpose.
Without confining myself to any precise proportions of the materials nsed, I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The use of a combination of milk and borax as a lubricant.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification-in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
B. A. EARL.
Witnesses:
CHARLES E. FOSTER, JOHN WHITE.
