J. B CLER-GET. ROPE END CLASP.
No. 463,807. Patented Nov. 24, 1891-.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. OLERGET, OF MORRILLTON, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOI-IN W'. SNYDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,807, dated November 24, 1891.
Application filed April 25, 1891. Serial No. 390,492. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, may concern:
Be it'known that I, JOHN B. CLERGET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morrillton,in the county of Conway and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful vImprovements in Rope-End Olasps; and I do to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to rope-end clasps; and it consists in the novel construction and y arrangement of its parts.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a longitudinal view of rny invention, andFig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention.
My invention is described as follows: lt consists of the two jaws A and B, (see Fig. 2,
hinged together at a. The exterior surfaces of said jaws are conically shaped and are provided with a thread a. The said jaws A and B are provided on their interior surfaces with the grooves a2 and as, respectively, and in the groove as in jaw B is a cross-'rod d4, integral with said jaw. The grooves d2 and d3 are provided with suitable teeth d5. terior surfaces of the jaws and in the thread d4 works a nut b. Said clasp is provided at its hinged end with a suitable cleat b.
My invention is operated as follows: One
Around the eX-A end of a rope C is doubled around the crossroda4 in the groove a3 of jaw B. The two jaws are then brought together and the rope is firmly clasped by the teeth ai in the grooves a2 and a3. Then the nut b is screwed tightly down over the exterior surfaces of the two jaws and keeps the said jaws from coming apart. Thus it will be seen that it is an inipossibility for the rope to slip out of the clasp.
This clasp is used where it is desired to hoist heavy articles, such as stone in building, well-buckets, tbc., the thing-to be lifted being attached to the cleat b.
Having 'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A rope-end clasp consisting of the jaws A and B, having the conically-shaped exterior Y surfaces provided with a thread d' and in their interior surfaces the grooves d2 and d3, respectively, provided with the teeth d5, and groove d3, having the cross rod d4, nut b, adapted to work in the thread d', and a suitable cleat b', said clasp adapted to have the rope doubled around said cross-rod and back upon itself, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J. B. GLERGET.
