UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEONWEELLAIIY, or ARLINGTON, NEW .'IEEsEY.
FOUNTAIN.
srEcIrIcATIoN forming pm of Lears Patent No. 463,616, dated November 24, 1891.
Application filed April 17, 1891.
T0 @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON BELLAMY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fountains, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for causing a play of water or other liquid, and has for its object the provision of a neat, simple, cheap, and effective fountain, especially designed for use in rooms or apartments. 1
To attain the desired end my invention consists, essentially, in a reservoir provided with means for suspending or supporting a pipe or tube leading downward therefrom and terminating in a jet-orifice, a bowl or cup sur` rounding the jet-tube for catching the falling fluid, an escape-perforation at the bottom of the bowl, provided with a valve, a iiexible walled receiver for the liuid located beneath the bowl, and a return-pipe forA conducting the iiuid from the receiver to the elevated I'eservoir, all of which will be hereinafter first Gis a tube passing from the reservoir A downward and then upward, the vertical p0rtion D constituting a constricted passage for a jet of liquid.
E is a bowl or cup, which receives the liquid as it falls from the jet.
F is a perforation in the bottom of the bowl SerialNo. 389,328. (No model.)
E, and G isa tube which surrounds said perforation. II is avalve located in this tube G.
I is a pipe open at the bottom and with which tube G connects. Pipe I extends up to the reservoir A, as particularly illustrated in Fig. 2.
K is a flexible walled receiver, consisting of a rubber bulb or its equivalent secured at the lower extremity of tube I.
. I have shown my fountain as arranged for suspension; but it is obvious that it may be supported from beneath, if desired, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The operation of the fountain is as follows: Water or other fluid being supplied to the bowl E flows into the receiver K, and then by compressing the walls of said receiver the valve II is closed and the vfluid driven upward into the vreservoir A; or, if desired, a suitable filler may be provided in the top of the reservoir. capes from D in a fine spray, falling back into the bowl E, from whence it iiows into the receptacle K. When said receptacle is filled, the fluid is again forced up into the reservoir, as in the first instance.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
A fountain in which is comprised an elevated reservoir, a pipe leading downward therefrom and provided with a jet-orifice, a receiving bowl or cup having an opening for the escape of fluid therefrom through a passage wherein is located a valve, as set forth, a liexible walled receiver below said valve, and a conducting-tube from the receiver to the elevated reservoir, the'whole combined and arranged to operate substantially as shown and described.
