Description

UNITED. STATES PATENT FFICE.
JOHN PEACE, UF CAMDEN, JERSEY.
IMPROVED CUTTER-STOCK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,742, dated January 3, 1865.
To all whom 'it mag concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN PEAGE, ot' Camden, :in the countyT of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Cutter-Stock or Cutter Screws; and I do hereby declare'that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference bei ng had to the accompanying' drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my invention; Fig. 2, a section ofthe same, taken in the line a: w, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
rlhis invention relates to a new and improved cutter-stock for cutting screws on gas and other pipes; and it consists in the employment or use of double cutters, fitted in a stock peculiarly constructed, as hereinafter set forth, whereby the cutters may be readily adjusted, and either end used to operate upon pipes of different diameters, and the cutters accurately adjusted to suit the diameter of the pipe to loe acted upon.
A represents a circular head, provided at two opposite points with sockets B B to receive the handles C C of the stock. The head Ais provided with three sockets, D, in which the cutter-bars E are iitted. These cutter-bars have a cutter, et, formed at each end of them,
and the cutter-bars may be withdrawn from the sockets D, reversed in position, inverted, and replaced, so that either cut-ting end may be used. The cutters a of each bar E are made to operate upon pipes ot' different diameters. and each bar E has a recess or hole, b, made in it to receive a setsercw, F, to hold the bars in position, the holes or recesses b being made at points to admit of the cutters a projecting within the head a distance to suit the diameter ot' the pipe to be acted upon it. (See Fig. 2.)
Vithin the head A there is a collar, G, which is securedin position by a set-screw, H. Several collars, G, having their internal diameter of different sizes, corresponding to that ot' the pipe to be operated upon, are designed to accompany each stock, and several sets of cutters E are also to accompany each stock.
Thus it will be seen that besides adjusting the cutters to operate upon different-sized pipes, the cutters may be removed and sharpened with the greatest facility and always kept in proper working order.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a cutterstock constructed as herein shown and described. I
JOHN PEACE.
