' GHIROPODISTS'FILE. No. 454,956. Pa' tentedJune 30, 1891.
WITNESSES! I gVEA/TO: %fy
v ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
- CHARLES s. LEVY, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHIROPODISTS FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 454,956, dated June 30, 1891.
Application filed October 2, 1890.
10 60% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLEs S. LEVY, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Ohiropodists File, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a file especially adapted for chiropodists use, and has for its object to provide a simple, durable, and compact instrument capable of convenient manipulation, whereby any callous surface or protuberance upon the skin may be expeditiously and conveniently removed.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of refer ence indicate corresponding parts in all the Views.
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the file. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3 3 of Figs. 1 and 2.
The body of the file usually consists of a strip of metal 10, bent upon itself to approximate a triangular shape in cross-section, as illustrated in Fig.3, the ends of the metal be-' ing made to overlap at one side, as illustrated at a. The apex or top of the body is semicircular, and the top and a portion of the side of the body at the top is roughened to 'form a file-surface 11, the said file-surface being usually produced by puncturing the metal from the inside, imparting thereto a graterlike appearance. A similar file-surface 12 is produced upon the bottom of the body, which is flat.
The body 10 may be of any desired length,
Serial No. 366,853- (lilo model.)
and the said body is supported and braced by a core 13, of wood, metal, a com osite or other material, the said core in shape approximating in cross-section the letter M. The outer faces of the core, however, are inclined to correspond to the inclination of the sides of the body, being attached thereto by means of pins, screws, or equivalentfastening devices. The lower portion of the core at its center and sides is preferably made to rest upon the inner face of the bottom of the body, as is shown in Fig. 3, and by reason of the peculiar shape of the body and core a chamber A is formed between the upperinner face of the body and the upper face of the core, and similar chambers A are prod uced between the innerlower face of the bodyand the opposingface of thia core. The core is preferably made to extend to the outer end of the body, and the inner end of the core may be attached to a handle 14, or the handle may constitute an integral portion of the core. The outer end of the implement is preferably open; or, it closed at all, a perforated or reticulated material is employed for that purpose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An implement for chiropodists use, consisting of abody-plate essentially triangular in cross-section, provided with an upper semicircular file-surface and a lower fiat file-surface and a core secured within the body, the
said core being recessed at top and bottom to form upper and lower chambers, as and for the purpose specified.
CHARLES S. LEVY.
