SHOT GANISTBR.
No. 454,124. r Patented June 16, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. REID, OF COLONY, KANSAS.
SHOT-CANISTER.
SPEIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 454,124, dated June 16, 1891.
Application filed February 181 1891- Serial No. 331,993. (No model.)
.To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES ILREID, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colony, in the county of Anderson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Dispensing-Cases for Shot or Like Articles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specilication.
My invention relates to-an improvement in dispensing-cases for shot or like articles; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and delinitely pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient receptacle for shot, arranged in their different grades, and from which the shot may be quickly drawn and deposited into a suitable scale. I attain this object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure l is a front elevation Y of my improved case. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is a top plan view with the top plate removed. Fig. 5 is a vertical section through the line X X of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a detached detail of a dischargespout, and Fig. 7 is a detail perspective of one of the slides. f 4
` In the drawings, A represents a casing of rectangular form, having a depressed front face and series of sample-chambers B arranged at the top l,of its front, which are provided with a transparent face. In the top Vof the casing is formed a series of bins C C C2 C3 C4 C5, having inclosed bottoms c, inclining in opposite directions, respectively, to a point near the center of the same, where the bottom is fiat, and in this flat portion are formed openings D, arranged alternately diagonally opposite each other. The bins are separated from each other by transverse partitions E, and longitudinally by diagonal partitions E', which pass between the two adjoining openings. By ,this arrangement of partitions, openings, and inclined bottom the shot in each bin will be conducted to the opening by its own weight.
Leading from each opening D are cylindrical spouts F, which are formed midway their length with enlarged horizontal guideways. In these guideways are placed flat slides G, which freely move therein and are formed with openings g, which equal the size of the openings in the bins. The extensions form guides and retainers for the slides and prevent the opening g from getting out of alignment with the opening D. To normally draw the slide forward, so that the opening will be closed, a spiral spring H is secured to its end and to the front of the casing. The rear end of the slide is provided with a handle 7L, which extends to the outside 0f the casing, and have numerals to designate the different grades placed on the casing over the same.
Below the spouts, extending the length of the casing, is a conducting-trough K, inclining downward from the ends and terminating at the center in a spout 7c. Below this spout is located a suitable scale L, with a removable pan. The top of the casing is formed with a series of openings through which the shot is poured to fill the bins. In operation the slide of the bin containing the desired grade of shot is drawn out until the openings coincide, when the shot is discharged into the trough and from thence to the scale-pan. As soon as the desired amount is deposited the handle is released and the spring draws the slide back, closing the opening.
Having thus described my invention, wha I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The shot-case herein described, consisting of a rectangular case having bins in its upper portion formed by transverse partitions dividing the upper part of the case into subdivisions, and diagonal cross-partitions dividin g the subdivisions to make two series of bins, an inclined bottom for the bins having bins may be discharged into a scale below the discharge openings approximately in a line trough, substantially as described. xo through the center of the case, spouts below In testimony whereof I alix my signature in the openings having enlarged guides therein, presence of two Witn esses.
