ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BARREL-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 453,856, dated June 9, 1891.
Application filed February 24, 1891- Serial No. 382,465. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LEWIS F. OHRIsTY and ELI ALDENDERFER, both residents of Amanda, in the county of Fairfield and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Barrel Trucks and Stands; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the "accompanyingQdrawings, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in combined barrel trucks and stands.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above description in which a barrel may be moved from place to place and held in an upright position, the construction being such that a barrel may be readily rolled onto the truck, and when used as a stand the barrel is securely held without liability of the same being accidentally displaced or of the stand tipping orturning over.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figurel is a perspective view of a combined truck and stand, showing the device in an upright position and adapted to be employed as a stand. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the device depressed or lowered to receive a barrel. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the stand with the turn-table removed.
In the said drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the side bars of the truck connected together by means of transverse bars 2 and having their upper ends formed into handles 3. In the other ends of these bars is journaled a shaft or axle 3, provided with supporting-wheels at. These parts may be of any ordinary or suitable construction. Secured to these bars near their lower ends by means of bolts 5 and nuts 6 are the anglebars 7, each consisting of metal plate having vertical portions 8 and 9 and horizontal portion 10. The vertical portion 8 is secured to the side bars by means of bolts 5 and nuts 6, while the portions 9 serve as supports or legs To the horizontal portion 10 is secured a platform 14 by means of bolts and. nuts 15 16, which serves as a support for the barrel.
For the purpose of allowing the barrel to rotate so. that the faucet therein may be turned out of the waywe provide the following means: The platform is provided with a series of three or more slots 17, in which are journaled. the lugs 18 of rollers or wheels 19. Upon these rollers or wheels rests a circular table 20, pivoted centrally in the said platform by means of pivot-bar 21. To the upper ends of the bars is pivoted a curved bail 22, which is adapted to be engaged with a barrel placed in the truck, whereby it may be held securely in position.
The operation is as follows: hen it is desired to place a barrel on the truck, the lattcr is lowered to the position illustrated in Fig. 2, when the barrel. can be rolled thereon and be supported by the cross-bars 2, which are slightly hollowed for that purpose. The bail is then turned over the barrel, whereby it is secured to the truck. The truck with the barrel thereon can now be moved to any desired place and turned or elevated to an upright position with the ends of the legs or supports resting upon the ground, forming a stand, by which the barrel may be securely supported in a vertical position. The rotating table is employed so that the barrel may be turned to bring the faucet or spigot out of the way when desired.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is- 1. The combination, with a truck, of the angular bars secured to the side bars thereof, the platform secured to said-bars, the rotatable table supported by said platform, and the curved bail pivoted to the side bars, substantially as described.
2. 1 The combination, with a truck provided with. a curved pivoted bail, of the angular bars having vertical portions secured to the side bars of the truck, vertical portions forming supports or legs, horizontal portions, the platform secured thereto having slots in which are journaled wheels or rollers, and the table pivoted to the platform and resting on the rollers, substantially as described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereunto aflixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
