A. OBENHOPF.
BOBBIN.
No. 450,730. Patented Apr. 21, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT OBENIIOFF, OF MIL'WAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
BOBBIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,730, dated April 21, 1891.
Application filed June 21,1890. $erial No, 356,203. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT OBENI-IOFF, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bobbins; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to spinning-bobbins; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a bobbin provided with one form of my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same; and Fig. 3, a side elevation, partly in section, showing another form of said invention.
Referring by letter to the drawings,A represents a wooden bobbin, having the base 1) thereof exteriorly provided with an annular groove 0, as is usual in this class of devices.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, an elastic packing-disk C is held against the base Z) of the bobbin by means of a sheet-metal plate D, having a central aperture for the bobbinspindle, and a series of upturned ears (I, embedded in the annular groove 0 of said bobbin and retained in position bya spring clam ping-ring E, the latter being preferably within said groove and flush with the periphery of said base.
\Vhile the construction just described is the one preferred, it is obvious that in place of the ears (I on the plate I), I may employ a continuous flange e, as shown in Fig. 3.
The construction above described is a very economical one for attaching packing-disks to bobbins, and the clamping-rings serve the double purpose of holding the sheet-metal plates in position and of strengthening the bases of said bobbins against splitting.
Having .thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of a bobbin having its base provided with a packing-disk, a plate opposed to the packing-disk and provided with one or more upturned extensions in opposition to said base, and a clampingring arranged to impinge against said plate-extensions, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a bobbin having its base exteriorly provided with an annular groove, a packing-disk arranged on the base, a sheet-metal plate opposed to the packingdisk and provided with one or more upturned extensions embedded in the basegroove, and a spring clamping-ring arranged to impinge against said plate-extensions with in said groove, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set myhand, at Milwaukee, in
the county of Milwaukee and State of Wiseonsin,in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT OBENHOFF.
