This invention relates to a new and imY proved machine for grinding and polishing hand-saws, whereby the work may be done in a very expeditious and perfect manner.
The invention consists in the employment or use of a horizontal wheel provided with grinders or polishers, and having its shaft fitted in a suitable framing, on the top of which there are placed a series of boxes to receive the saws to be operated upon by the grinders or polishers, which, as the wheel rotates, pass over the saws and perform the work.
A represents a framing, on the top of wh'ch there is secured a horizontal bed-piece, B, to the periphery of which there are attached a series of boxes, O, six being represented in Fig. 2. These boxes contain the saws to be ground, and they have set-screws a passing vertically through their bottoms, on which beds D are placed to receive the saws to be operated upon, the beds and saws being adjusted higher or lower, as may be desired, by turning the set-screws a. The ends b and front sides, c, of these boxes are secured to their bottoms by means of set-screws d, which pass through vertical slots e and admit of said l ends and sides being adjusted higher or lower,
as may be desired.
E is a shaft, which is fitted vertically in the framing A, and has a wheel, F, placed horizontally upon it. To the under side of the rimf of this wheel there are attached a series of grinders or polishers, G, constructed of vulcanized india-rubber and emery or any other suitable material. rEhe shaft E is tted at its lower end in a step, H, which rests on a rod, I, attached to a bridge-tree, J, the latter being adjusted through the medium of a screw, K, for the purpose of raising and lowering the wheel F to graduate the pressure of the grinders or polishers on the saws. The wheel F is rotated from a driving-shaft, L, through the medium of a belt, M, or gearing.
rEhe saws (shown in red) to be operated upon are placed in the boxes C and adjusted to the desired height by turning the setscrews a, and, motion being given the wheel F, the grinders or polishers act upon the saws, the latter, when polished at one side, being turned over, in order that their opposite sides may be polished.
The whole'arrangement is extremely simple, and the device performs its work in a rapid and perfect manner.
It is designed to have the grinders or polishers attached to wheel F in such a manner that they may be easily removed when necessary.
l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentrlhe rotary wheel F, with grinders or polishers G attached, in combination with the boxes U, provided 'with the adjustable beds D, on
which the saws are placed, all being arranged to operate in thema-nner substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
