SPECIFICATION forming part of-Letters Patent No. 446,626, dated February 17', 1891.S Application filed September 13, 1890. Serial N0.364,884. (No model.)

Be it known that I, LEoNiD/is A. PRESTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cheapside, in the county of Gonzales and State ot' Texas, have invented a new and useful Insecticide-Distributer, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to poison-distribu ters; and the object of the same is to provide a device ot' this character adapted to blow or eject an insecticide, such as Paris green or London purple, the same being especially useiul 4in a cotton-field where the operator can walk between the rows and distribute the insecticide on any side of him according to the direction of' the wind, in order that he may not have to breathe it after it has been applied to the cotton-plants or while it is being so applied.
To this end the invention consists of a device for the specific construction, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and as illustrated in the drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of my improved distributer. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same.
Referring to the said drawings, the letter B designates a suitable base, which may be mounted upon wheels, suspended by straps from the operators shoulder, or supported in any suitable manner not essential to the spirit of the present invention, and hence not illustrated, At the rear end of this base is supported a bellows, a rotary fan, or other machine A for creating a blast of air, and from the mouth thereot' a tubeT leads through an upright- U to a reservoir R, mounted upon the base near its front end. This reservoir has a filling-orifice F in one side, whose upper end is closed by a cork: V, and through this orifice the insecticide is passed into the reservoir R.
S is a standard rising from the front end of the base B, and II is a horizontal arm pivoted upon the reduced upper end E of said standard, so that it may swing in a horizontal plane to either side of the base, as seen in Fig. i. At the other end of this arm rises a bracket K, having several holes through its body.
I is a rubber pipe leading from the diseharge-oriceof the reservoir R, curving upwardly over the standard S, and passing at its front end through one of the holes in the bracket K, as best seen in Fig. 2.
In operation the reservoir is filled with an insecticide, the device carried to a point in the cotton-held, (or in any other field where the tops of the plants are being injured by caterpillars, worms, or other insects,) the horizontal arm II turned so as to direct the mouth of the pipe P to the Windward and away from the operator, the bellows or air-motor A operated, and a stream of air thereby caused to flow into the reservoir and a cloud of insecticide to be blown from the mouth of the pipe P upon the plants, the cork V at the upper end of the feed-orifice F preventing the powder from blowing out the same. The arm II can be turned to any side, and the pipe P can be passed through any of the holes therein, as may be required.
XVhat is claimed as new is l. The herein-described insecticide-distributer, lthe same comprising a base B, a bellows A, mounted thereon, an insecticide reservoir R, also mounted thereon, and having a fillingorifice F, whose upper end is closed by a cork V, a tube connecting the bellows with the reservoir, an upright standard S on the front end of the reservoir, having a reduced upper end E, a horizontal arm II, pivotally mounted on said reduced end, a bracket K at the outer end of said arm, having a number of holes therethrough, and a flexible pipe P, leading from said reservoir through one of said holes, as hereinbet'ore set forth.
2. The herein-described insecticide-distributer, the same comprising a base B, a bellows A, mounted thereon, an insecticide-reservoir R R, also mounted thereon, a tube connecting the bellows with the reservoir, an upright standard S on the front end of the reservoir, a horizontal arm II, pivotally mounted on said standard, a bracket K at the outer end of said arm, having a number of holes therethrough, and a flexible pipe P, leading from said reservoir through one of said holes, as set forth.
