CHEST PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 446,531, dated February 17, 1891.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BURR T. Mason, of Phoenix,in the county of Oswego, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chest-Protectors, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to chest-protectors.

My object is to produce as a new article of manufacture a medicated chest-protector so cheaply constructed as to be within the reach of all and of great utility.

My invention consists in the several novel features of construction hereinafter described, as specifically set forth in the claim hereunto annexed. It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a plan view of the protector. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.

A is the body of the chest-protector, constructed of any material desired and having corrugations Z) Z) extending over its entire surface, running longitudinally. I do not, however, confine myself to having the corrugations run longitudinally, as they may run in any other direction desired. The object of these corrugations is for the purpose of allowing a free circulation of air to pass between the body and the chest-protector, and for the purpose of more completely assuring the complete circulation of airI have provided openings (Z, as shown, to be made in that portion of the corrugations which'comes next to the body.

It will be observed that this protector can be constructed of one piece of material and the whole saturated with a medical compound, or it may be constructed of several layers, in which case I usually medicate the interior layer with a stronger medical compound, thereby producing counter-irritation.

It will further be observed that where I construct this protector of one layer the body and springs may be wholly constructed from. one piece of material.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A chest-protector, as anew article of manufacture, constructed of paper and provided with corrugations and openings in that portion of the corrugations coming next to the body, substantially as described, for the purposes as set forth.
