KALLMANN GLASS, 0F UEV YORK, N. Y.
BATH=TUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,814, dated January 27,1891.
Application led September 2, 1889. Serial No. 3221675. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, KALLMANN GLASS, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Bath-Tub, ot which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sectional bathtub, which when folded down is perfectly water-tight and when folded up is adapted to receive a case containing drawers.
The invention consists in the various features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figurel is a side elevation of my improved bath-tub, showing it folded down. Fig. 2 is a similar elevation showing it folded up; Fig. 3, an end view thereof. Fig. e is an enlarged face View of the clasp; Fig. a section on an enlarged scale on line :r or, Fig. l. Fig. 6 is a vertical longitudinal section of the folded tub with the case of drawers; Fig. '7, a side view of the case of drawers when removed from the tub, and Fig. S a perspective view of the case without the drawers.
The letters d o. represent the two sections of a bath-tub resting on feet and on a railing, respectively, and connected at their upper edges by hinges Z). The contiguous edges of the sections c, a are grooved, Fig. 5, for the reception of a rubber gasket b.
In order to draw and hold the sections a d" together, so as to compress the gasket and form a water-tightjoint, I make use of a clasp on each side of the tub. This clasp consists of a pair ot` faceplates c c', Fig. 5, one screwed to each section a a. To the plate c there is connected by links c2 an eccentric or cam c3. The links pass through eyes c4 on the parts c c3 and permit the eccentric to be folded back sufficiently to clear a bent-u p edge c5 on plate c. lVhen the bath-tub is to be tightened up for use, the eccentric is brought into engagement with the bent plate o and turned to lay flush upon said plate, as in Fig. l. This will draw the section a toward section a, compress the gasket b, and form atight joint. To fold the bath-tub up, the cam is swung back to become disengaged from plate c, Fig. 5, the links c2 permitting it to be sufficiently raised for that purpose.
Vhen the batlrtub is folded up, asin Figs. 3 and G, it is utilized for the reception of a case ot drawers to constitute a bureau. The case containing the drawers d consists of the upright frame e, carrying the rails e', that support the drawers and which are connected at their rear ends by uprights e2. The rails e are of different lengths, Figs. 6 and S, according to the difference in size of the two part-s of the tub. The frame e rests upon rigid feet f, while the rear ends of the lowermost pair of rails e are supported upon hinged feet f. Then the case is slid into the tub, the feetf are folded up, Fig. 6; but when the case is drawn forward the feet f are made to assume an upright position, Fig. T.
W'hat I claim it"n l. The combination, in a bath-tub, of sections d a', grooved on contiguous edges, with the gasket b within the grooves and with the hinges b at the upper edges of sections a a and with a clasp upon the sides of such sections, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, in a bath-tub, of sections a a', grooved on contiguous edges, with the gasket b', plate c', links c2, eccentric c3, and with the plate c, having bent edge c5, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of a sectional folding bath-tub with frame e, rails e', uprights e2, feet f, and hinged feet f substantially as specified.
