PLOW-WH EEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,282, dated January 27, 1891.
Application filed October 1, 1890. Serial No. 366,709. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ 'wh/cm, it 71mg/ concern:
Be it known that I,JOHN T. BENDER, a ctizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Wheels, and I do hereby de clare thatl the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being` had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a view showing` the wheel properly attached to a plow. Fig. 2 is a section ofthe wheel showing its different parts. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the head. Fig. 4 is a top view of the head, showing section of the wheel-arm. Fig'. is a view showing a portion ot' the wheel-hub and its thimble. Fig. C is a view ot' the wheel and its different parts detached from a plow-beam. Fig'. 7 is a detached view of the thimble.
The present invention has relation lo plowwheels; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters ol' reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings` A represents the wheel-arni, which is semicircular in cross-section, and is so formed for the purpose hereinafter described.
The head l5 is substantially of the form shown in the drawings, andas shown itis provided with the groove a, which is for the purpose of receiving the bottom or under side of a plow-beam- The head 13 is provided with the semicircular portion b, which is received into the semicircular arm A, as shown in Figs. 4 and o'. The head B is securely held to the arm A by means of the clamping-bolt c, and for the purpose of adjustingl the arm A, together with the wheel C, up and down, the elongated slot (l is provided. For the purpose of adjustingr the arm A, together with the wheel (I, at any desired angle with reference to the plow-beam, the slot e is provided, thereby allowing the arm A to turn on the semicircular portion b. The head B is securely clamped t-o thel end the ears 7L are provided, and are located upon V the under side of the head l5.
Within the hub E is located the box F, and for the purpose ot' causing the box F to rotate with the wheel C and its hub E said box is provided with the lug 7L', which lug is received in to the .recess 712. 'ithin the box F is located the thimble ll, which thimble is formed somewhat longer than the box F, for the purpose ot leaving the hub E free to rotate with the box F. For the purpose of holding the arm end of the thimble ll in proper position, the collar l is formed upon the side of the arm A, and located as illustrated in Fig. L. The opposite end of the thimble Il is held in proper position by means of the cap J, which cap embraces the end of the box F, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The thimble ll is provided with the [lange K, which abuts against the arm A. The opposite end of the thimble ll abuts against the cap J. It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement dirt cannot reach the bearing portion of the thimble ll. The clamping-bolt L is for the purpose otl attaching the wheel C, together with the different parts, to the arm A.
In Fig. 2 the bolt L is shown with the nut against the cap J; but in use the head of the bolt should come against the cap, as illustrated in Fig. (l. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let.- ters Patent, is-
l. The combination of the arm A, formed selnicircular in crosssection, the head B, provided with the semicireular portion l), the slot c, the clamping-bolt c, the elampingeboltf, the bar g, and the wheel O, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
lOO
2. The combination of the arm A, the thimble H, the box F, located around said thmble and provided with the lug h', the hub E, provided With the recess h2, lche collar I, the oap 5 J, the clamping-bolt L, and means foradjust'- ing the Wheel C, substantially as and for the purpose speoied.
3. The combination of the arm A, the head B, provided with the recess D, the ears h, the
clamping-bolts f, and the bar g,substantial1y x as and for' the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN T. BENDER. Vitnesses:
E. A. C. SMITH, F. XV. BOND.
