Description

E HOAG SAW SWAGE.
(No Model.)
No. 445,179. Patented Jan. 27, 1891.

EDIYIN IIOAG, OF HARRISON, MICHIGAN.
SAW-S\NAG E.
EEPECIFICATl-"ON forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,179, dated January 27, 1891.
Application filed March 23, 1888.
To all whom it may 007100 a:
Be it known that I, EDWIN IIOAG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrison, in the county of Clare and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Saw-Swage, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to saw'swages; and its object is to provide a tool for swaging or bending the drag-teeth of a saw, especially a crosscut-saw so that they will carry the sawdust out of the out, rather than drag it out, as the straight drag-teeth do. This I accomplish with the following-described tool:
Figure 1 is a side view of the tool applied to point of the drag-tooth. Fig. 2 is same as Fig. Lwith tool applied to the opposite point of the drag-tooth. Fig. 3 is the tool in perspeotive.
A is the tool, having its width nearly equal to its thickness and being about two inches long and having one end larger than the other and having across the larger end a slot B. It is the peculiar shape of this slot that gives value to the tool. It is on an angle of about fifty degrees, and is just wide enough to admit the point of a tooth of a saw. The ends or lips E and D are rounded at the point of entrance of the slot, so that when the tool is driven onto a tooth, as it is designed to be, they will not mar the edge of the tooth. For about a quarter of an inch inward the sides of the slot B are parallel. Then they spread Serial No. 268,302. (No model) out and extend inward far enough to keep the tooth when it is driven into the slot B from striking the tool. By drivingthe point of a tooth into the slot B it is bent to the same angle as the slot B. Placing the tool upon the opposite point of the dragtooth, if it is a double one,and driving it on, willbend the point in the opposite direction, as is de sired, if the tool is turned around.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A saw-swage A, having one end larger than the other and being about two inches long and with its width nearly equal to its thickness, and having a slot B across its larger end, said slot B being on the line of an angle of about fifty degrees and being just wide enough to admit of the point of a tooth of a saw, the walls of said slot B being parallel for about a quarterof an inch in depth, whereby when driven upon the tooth the point will be bent to the same angle as the slot B, as desired, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed niysignature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN IIOAG.
