UMBRELLA-BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 444,769, dated January 13, 1891.

Application filed August 4, 1890. Serial No. 360,963. (No model.)

Be it known that I, ALBERT A. SHERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Umbrella-Bracket, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to umbrellabrackets for use in halls and other places; and the objects in View are to provide a cheap, simple, and ornamentally-const-ructed holder adapted to be applied to the wall and to support in a vertical position a number of umbrellas or canes, and to catch and retain any moisture or drippings from the umbrellas or canes.

Other objects and advantages of the invention, together with the novel features thereof, will hereinafter appear, and be particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of an umbrella-stand constructed in accordance with my invention. Eig. 2 is a detail in perspective of one of the brackets for supporting the holders. Fig. 3 is a plan of one of the umbrella-receiving and dishsupporting brackets. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line fc fr, Fig. 1.

Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures.

1 designates a back board of suitable dimensions, to the face of which, near its upper and lower ends, are secured by screws 2 a casting 3. The Vcastings 3 maybe of any fanciful design, and are provided with sockets 4,

and above the same with outwardly-projectg ing perforated lugs 5.

b designates the umbrella-supporting casting or holder also formed of any fanciful design, and comprising` opposite large circular openings 7 and in this instance two smaller intermediate openings 8, also of circular shape. The rear edge of the casting is provided with a rectangular tenon 9, which takes into the socket 4 of the upper casting 3 and in front of the same with a perforation 10, which registers with the perforation in the ear or lug 5, and through said perforations is passed a screw 11, thereby connecting the casting 6 to the casting-bracket 3 and supporting the casting 6 in a horizontal position and at a right angle to the back 1.

12 designates the dish-supporting casting, which is a counterpart of the casting 6, the same having the openings 7 and S, the tenon 9, and perforation 10. This casting 12 is, by a screw 13, secured to the lower castingbracket-S, and the openings 7 and 8 align with those of the casting 6.

1i designates dishes or bowls of metal or earthenware and preferably of the latter, which fit and are removably seated in the openings 7 and 8 of the lower casting 12. This completes the construction of the stand, which may be supported `upon a wall or other suitable fixed object, and through the openings 7 and Sof the upper casting G may be inserted umbrellas and canes in inverted positions, the lower ends of the same resting in the bowls, which are designed to catch any drippings therefrom. If desired, the back board 1 may be formed of metal, in which case the sockets 4 and lugs 5 will be formed therein and thereupon.

Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. In an umbrella-stand, the combination, with a back board or base adapted to be secured to a wall or other support and provided with angular sockets and above the same with perforated lugs, of upper and lower castings having tenons for entering the sockets, bolts passing through the lugs of the base and through the castings in front of the tenons, each of said castings having corresponding openings and dishes 'or bowls 141-, fitting and removably mounted in the openings of the lower casting, substantially as specified.

2. In an umbrella-stand, the combination, with a back board or base and upper and lower cast metal brackets secured thereto and provided with sockets and above the same with perforated ears or lugs, of upper and lower castings 6 and 12, having tenons 9 and perforated, as at 10, the tenons entering the sockets and the perforations registering with those in the lugs, screws or bolts passing through the perfor-ations, said castings 6 and 12 having opposite large openings 7 and intermediate small openings S, and correspondingly-sized bowls 14, removably seated and fitting the large and small openings of the lower casting, substantially as specified.
