J. W. REED. CLOTHES DRIER.
No. 443,920. Patented Deo. 30,1890.
UNITED i STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES lV. REED, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO VILLSON J. ISETT, OF SAME PLACE.
CLOTH ES-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 443,920, dated December 30, 1890.
Application filed .Tune 12, 1890. Serial No. 355,260. (No model.)
To all whom it 77mg concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES lV. REED, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a cer- 5 tain new and useful Improvement in Clothes Evaporating or Drying Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to clothesdriers; and it consists in the construction 1o hereinafter set forth, whereby a light and durable drier is provided that will be of simple and efficient form, and present an arrangement whereby the clothes may be conveniently and quickly adj usted thereon and rapi 5 idly dried.
In the accom panying drawings, yforming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a clothes-drier embodying my iinprovements.
2o View of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views of my improved drier, taken at the top and in a lower plane.
The bed-plate A is secured to the floor, and is provided centrally upon its upper side with z5 a bearing-box a and surrounding circular track or way b.
The drier proper is composed in part of a base-disk D, having a marginal Vertical flange, and beneath the said disk is bolted a series 3o of radial axles or spindles C C, upon theprojecting ends of which are mounted wheels B li, adapted to run on said track and secure the free rotation of said drier. A pivot a Fig. 2 is a vertical sectionall depends centrally from the underside of a small disk secured to the axles or spindles C 3 5 C, and said pivot bears in said box a. A series of outwardly-inclined vertical bars E E are secured at their lower ends to the diskflange, and are re-enforced by braces K K, radially extending from a ring secured to a 4o central shaft, said braces preventing wires g g from sagging or kinking. The connection of the wires g g with the bars E is secured by clamp-plates H H, so that the entire upper structure forms a dryingcone. From the 45 upper center of the hub-diskD rises the driving-shaft F, carrying a band-pulleyto permit its rotation.
I claim- The combination of the circular base car- 5o rying the central Vertical driving-shat't, a series of vertical bars braced by radial braces extending from the central shaft, a series of radial bars secured on the under side of the base and carrying rollers at their outer ends, 55 together with an independent disk having a depending pivot and secured to theinner ends of the radial bars, horizontally-arranged Wires supported by the vertical bars, and a circular base-track on which the rollers travel, substan- 6o tially as set forth.
