SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 440,050,dated November 4, 1890.

Application filed March 17, 1890. Serial No. 344,205. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. MCCREADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Homewood, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oar-\Vheels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improved wheel for velocipede railway-cars; and it consists in an annular ring attached to the outside rim of the Wheel to form an outer flange to prevent the car from running off the track, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved wheel. Fig. 2 is a face view of the same.

To put my invention into practice with an ordinary railway-wheel a, I provide an annular ring I), having inwardly-projecting lugs c, and attach the same to the outside rim of the wheel a by means of suitable set-screws d. This ring 1) projects beyond the face of the wheel a and forms a flange e, which will prevent the wheel from leaving the track when the same is passing over frogs or switches. This ring I) may be divided into two sections and placed on wheels in use without detaching the same.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

A car-Wheel consisting of a hub, tread,and a flange integral with the wheel on the inner side thereof, having a supplemental ring 12 secured to the opposite face of the wheel and projecting beyond the tread to form a-flange e of less diameter than the integral flange on the opposite face of the wheel, said supplemental ring being made in sections and having integral lugs or projections c on the inner edge thereof, through which the bolts d are passed to secure the supplemetal ring to the wheel a, the ends of the sections overlapping each other, as and for the purpose described.
