MACHINE FOR REPAIRING.SPINNING-RINGS.

My invention relates to a mechanism for the purpose of repairing spinning-rings and restoring the flanged track which has become Worn by the friction of the traveler and rendered worthless, so that the old and worn ring can be used in al spinning-frame.
. A machine embodying my invention is illustra-ted in the accompanying drawings, al-
' though I do not confine myself to the specific details of construction therein shown, as these can be varied in many obvious ways and still embody the essential features of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, A denotes a spinning-ring, shown in sectional view. B denotes the track for the traveler and formed by the Iiange B upon the outside and the {iange B2 upon the inside of the ring, `and C denotes the waist between the flanged track B and the base D of the ring.
E denotes the supporting-frame, and F a hanger, in which is journaled the short shaft F', carrying the tight and loose pulleys F2 and FB and the beveled pinion G, engaging the bevel-gear H, having a spline-connection with the vertical spindle I, which is journaled in the bearing I and supported vertically by the shoulder l2. The upper end of the vertical spindle is provided with the cup-shaped depression If3 to receive the base D of the spinning-ring. The ring A is placed in the recess formed in the end of the vertical spindle and attached to the spindle by means of a set-screw I4, causing the rotary motion of the spindle to be imparted to the spinningring. Attached to the upper surface of the frame- 7ork E, by means of the foot J, is the post J', in the upper end of which is hinged the arm K, provided with the vertical head K.
L is a steel block or die sliding in a groove L in the head K and capable ofbeing forced downward by a screw L2 upon the upper surface of the track A with sufficient pressure to expand the flanged track of the ring laterally, thereby increasing the width of the flanges B and B2. On each side of the head K are the side dies M M, hinged to the head K by the pintles M', Fig. V5. The side dies M M are provided with the lips N N, which extend beneath the flanges B B2, so that as the screw L2 is screwed down 'upon the sliding central die L the pressure upon the upper face of the track A will be received by the lips N N, and the fianges B B2 will be compressed between the lips and the end of the central die L. The inner edges of the lips press against the sides of the waist C, and as the flanges B B2 are expanded laterally the edges of the flanges are held by the sides of the side dies at N and their expansion limited. At the sides of the iianges are the cutting or scraping lips O O, which scrape the edges of the iianges B B2, leaving a smooth and true cylindrical surface upon the edges of the flanges. In like manner the edges of the lips NN serve to scrape against the sides of the waist C and render the surface smooth and cylindrical. v
Journaled in the arm K is a pin P, to the ends of which are attached the armsR R, carrying the screws R R in their free ends, and as the arms R are dropped in the position shown in the drawings the screws R are brought into position to bear against the outer sides of the dies M M and compress the sides of the waist C and the edges of the flanges B B2. The arm K and head K have an angular movement around the pivotal stud K2 in IOO the post J', and the hole through the arm K is made slightly flaring at each end, as represented by the broken lines K3, in Order to allow a slight lateral movement of the head K' to accommodate it to any eccentricity in the movement of' the ring A as it is rotatedV by the spindle I When a ring has had the hanged track A restored to its proper width and the edges of its hanges rendered smooth and cylindrical, in the manner already described, the screws R are. loosened and the arms R R raised in the position represented by the broken lines R2 R2, allowing the lower ends of the side dies M M to be thrown out from the head K', and the lips N N disengaged from thehanges B B2, and the head K' to be raised and the finished ring removed and another-inserted in its place in the recessfl?.

The lower end of the vertical spindle isrreduced in size at I5, and the. bearing is correspondingly reduced in order'toallow the pin or spline l6 to be withdrawn .and the spindle itself raised' out of its bearing.

the combination of a die, by which a pressure is applied to the hanged track of the ring to expand the same laterally, and a pair of restraining-dies applied to the edges of the flanged track to limit its expansion, substantially as described.
3. Ina machine for repairing spinning-rings, the combination of the head K ,a diesliding in said head, a screw held in said head, by which pressure is applied to said sliding die, and side dies attached to said head and having lips extending beneath the hanged track of the ring, whereby the pressure applied to the face of the ring is received by said lips, substantially as described.
4. In amachine for repairing spinning-rings, the combination of a die by which a pressure is applied tothe face of the hanged track of the ring for the purpose of expanding the same laterally, and supporting dies or lips placed beneath said hanged track to support the same, substantially as described.
5. In amachinefor repair-ingspinning-rings,
the combination, with a die by which a pressA ure is applied to the face of the. flanged track of the yring for the purposeot` expanding the same, of the dies or lips applied to the waistof the ring, substantially as dea scribed.
6. In a machine for.repairingspinning-rings, the combination of. the head, K' andthe side diesk M M, provided with scraping or cutting lips, whereby the edges of the` flanged track arescraped and reduced to. a, true `cylindrical surface, substantially as described.
7. In a machinefor repairing spinning-rings, the combinatiom witha holder for holding the ring to be. repaired, said holder having a rotarymotion, lof' the .diesL and M M, screws L2 and 'R' R', and head K', substantially as described.
8.- In amachineforrepairing spinning-rings, the combination of a postfJ', hingedarmK, and a series of' dies carriedbysaid arm and arranged-to inclose thehanged track. of the ring, and screws wherebypressure is. applied to said dies, substantially as described.
9. TheV combination, with the head K', of
`the side dies M M, provided with lips extending beneath` the hanged track of the ring, said dies being hinged to said head, whereby the diesand their lips are removed from the track of the ring, substantially as described.

The combination, with a ring-holder in 5 which the ring to be operated upon is held and rotated, of a series of dies by which a pressure is applied to the {ianged track of the ring, substantially as described, said dies being capable of a lateral motion to allow for any eccentricity in the rotation of the ring, ro substantially as described. l
