Description

L e d 0 M 0 N w P. A. REIGHARDT.
POCKET SURGIGAL CASE.
Patented 001;. 28, 1890-.
7B7 fig Jaw/maxi ATTORNEY.
PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND ALFRED REICHARDT, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
POCKET SUR GICAL CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,187, dated October 28, 1890.
Application filed August 15, 1890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND ALFRED REIOHARDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pocket-Cases for Surgical Instruments, of which the following is a specification.
The nature and object of the invention are fully illustrated and set forth in the accompanying drawings and the following general descriptions, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating one-half of my newly-invented instrumentcase. Fig. 2 illustrates the leaf to which the instruments are detachably secured. Fig. 3 illustrates one-half of the case with the said leaf removed.
a designates the outside of the case, and a, a. the flaps that fold over the instruments within the case.
b is the flap whereon the instruments are detachably secured. One end of this leaf is connected with theback bya flexible connection ate. At 0 an opening is made in this leaf, substantially as illustrated.
bb are the loops into which the handles of the instruments are slipped to secure them in place.
The whole device is to be substantially as illustrated in the drawings.
To place the instruments in this case, the operator first pushes the handles through the upper loops b far enough to bring their ends opposite the middle of the opening 0. Then lifting up the loose end of the flap 1? he puts Serial No. 362,070. (No model.)
his finger under and through the opening 0, so as to grasp the handle of the instrument with his thumb above and finger below. Then he can push the handle into the other loop and so secure the instrument in proper place. To take out an instrument, the operator lifts up the leaf 6, grasps the handle of the instrument with the thumb and finger, as before described, and then pushes out the'instrument as far as his. grasp on the handle and the size of the openingcwill allow. Then releasing his grasp, letting the leaf 1) fallinto its original position against the back, he can grasp the instrument by so much of its handle as protrudes from the loops and Withdraw it from the case. Each instrument must thus be separately handled, and in this-way the operator is in no danger of cutting himself or marring the blade of the instrument.
' What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the back of a surgi cal-instrument case, of a leaf secured at one end by flexible connections to the said back, loops upon said leaf for securing instruments in their places, and an opening 0 formed in said leaf, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have hereto signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 1st day of August, 1890.
