W. S. MAGERS 8: F. P. PARKER.
SPLIT PULLEY.
No. 439,020. Patented Oct. 21, 1890.
xi Attorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. MAGERS AND FRANK P. PARKER, OF GOSHEN, INDIANA.
SPLIT PU LLEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,020, dated October 21, 1890.
Application filed June 21, 1890. Serial No. 356,222. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM S. MAGERS and FRANK P. PARKER, citizens of the United States, and residents of Goshen, in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Split Pulleys; and we do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figurel of the drawings is a side view, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view, of the hub-sections.
This invention relates to certain improvements in split pulleys; and it consists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter disclosed.
In the drawings, A refers to the rim of the pulley, bisected in the usual Way, and B B refer to the spokes, arranged in pairs in planes at right angles to each other. The spokes of each pair are, however, mitered at their inner ends to theinner ends of those at right angles thereto, while the pairs of spokes, one on each side of the hub holding the rim-section together, are bolted together.
0 is the hub, consisting of two sections 0' 0, each cast near each end with opposite apertured flanges or ears a, through which are passed bolts 12, fitted with nuts securing the hub-sections together. The hub-sections C O are also each cast upon its outer or convex surface about at its center with half-box-shaped arms 0, arranged in alignment upon opposite sides thereof, and with an I-shaped extension 0' standing at right angles to the arms a, being virtually a compound of two arms 0 united back to back by a web, said extension having half-box-shaped sockets receiving the spokes. These arms and extensions, it is obvious, receive and permit of the bolting thereto of the spokes B B, square or angular headed screwbolts cl passing through said spokes and engaging screw-threaded sockets in said arms and extensions, thus effecting a solid fastening between the spokes and hub.
The hub O is fitted with a compressed paper bushing E to provide for the ready adj ustment, by reason of its flexibility, of the hub to shafts of varying diameters, thus obviating the changing of the pulley for one having a hub of the size to accommodate the shaft.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The split pulley having its hub constructed of sections each providedwithhalf-box-shaped arms standing in alignment, their sockets or spoke-receiving surfaces standing back to back, said hub-sections also having I-shaped portions or extensions arranged at right angles to and at the inner ends of the said arms and having half-box-shaped sockets forming right-angled continuations of the sockets of said arms, with means for holdingsaid hubsections together and to the spokes, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM s; MAeERs. FRANK P. PARKER.
