Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. SILSBEE, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVED SOAP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. SILsBEE, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Kind of Soap; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof and of the process by which it is made.
Mysoapismadefrom thecommonhardorGerman soap, (bars,) to which is added sal-soda and naphtha in certain proportions. These proportions vary according to the quality of soap required, whether for toilet or other purposes. The foundation soap is melted by a gentle heat, when the soda and naphtha are added and thoroughly mixed therewith. Upon cooling again and drying the resulting soap may be finely powdered and sifted. It may be colored and perfumed in the same manner as other soaps.
This soap, which I name excelsior soap, differs in all other soaps greatly in its capability of being easily reduced to a fine powder, in which form it may be indefinitely preserved,
persistently retaining all its qualities, while in any other form it is quickly deteriorated.
This excelsior pulverized soap is superior to other soaps in the following particulars, to wit:
by a much less quantity of this soap than of any other.
Fourth. Its peculiar condition of a fine powder renders it much more convenient for use than any other soap.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The producing of soap in the form of a fine dry powder with powers for cleansing, as aforesaid, using for that purpose the aforesaid ingredien ts or any others substantially the same and which will produce the same effect.
