UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
MORITZ LEVI, OF NEWY YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO RASMUS FORSHOLM, OF SAME PLACE.
ELECTRIC ADVERTISING-CLOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Letters Patent N0. 437,905, dated October 7, 1890.
Application led .Tune 26, 1890. Serial No. 356,756. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern: B, said arm and spring being in circuit with Be it known that LMORITZ LEVI, of the city, a battery that is preferably arranged in the county, and State of New York, a citizen of lower part of the clock-casing. The rotary the German Empire, have invented certain arm d is provided with a platinum contact-pin 5 new and useful Improvements in Electric Adthat forms at each rotation of the arm Contact 5 5 vertising-Olocks, of which the following is a with the spring d', so as to close and interrupt specification. Y thereby at regular intervals of time the cir- This invention relates to an improved adcuit of the battery. The circuit-closing arm vertising-clock of that class in which a numd is electrically connected with the frame of 1o ber of sheets containing announcements are t-he clock-train and with an electro-magnet E, 6o applied to an interniittently-rotating drum or that islocated in the battery-circuit, said eleccylinder and successively exhibited in a front tro-magnet operating an armature-lever E Opening of the clock-case by the action of which is fulcrumed to a bracket-arm c at the electrical agencies. interior f the casing B. The upper end of x The invention consists of a clock-movement the armature-lever is connected by a spiral 65 that is provided with a circuit-closing device spring e with the casing B, while the lower by which the armature of an electro-magnet end of the armature-lever engages by a pivis intermittently actuated, sothat it transmits oted and spring-actuated pawl f a ratchetby a pawl-and-ratchet device intermittent rowheel f on the shaft of a drum or cylinder F,

A checkplied, said announcements being successively pawl f3 engages the ratchet-wheel f and preexhibited through an opening in the front vents it from being turned in the opposite diwall ofthe clock-case, as will be fully described rection. In the accompanying drawings, Figure l To the circumference of the drum F is aprepresents a front elevation of my improved plied a number of advertising-sheets g by electricadvertising-clock. The pawl f on the 5o tached to an insulated block d2 of the casing armature-lever engages thereby the ratchetroc Wheelf on the shaft of the drum and causes the turning of the latter for the distance of a tooth. By the intermittent. rotary motion that is imparted by the armature and the paWl-and-ratchet mechanism to the drum the sheets containing the announcements are successively dropped and exhibited in the front opening of the clock-casing. The dial of the clock is arranged at the front Wall of the clock above the opening b, the hands being operated by the clock-train in the usual manner, which serves also to operate the circuit-closing device, so that the armature-lever and pawland-ratchet mechanism are operated and an intermittent rotary motion imparted to the drum, by which the sheets containing the announcements are successively dropped and exhibited.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination of a clock-movement, a clock-casing having a front opening, a circuit-closing device operatedintermittently by said clock-movement, an electro-magnet arranged in circuit With the circuit-closing device, an armature -lever operated by said electro-magnet, a drum having a number of sheets containing announcements, and a pawland-ratchet mechanism by which the armatu re-lever impartsintermittently-rotating motion to the drum so as to exhibit said sheets through the front opening of the clock-casing, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a clock-movement, a circnit-closing device operated by said clockmovement, an electro-magnet arranged in circuit with said circuit-closing device, an armature-lever operated by said magnet, a drum having a number of sheets containing announcem ents attached to the circumference of the drum, a paWl-andratchet device for intermittently rotating the drum, and a retaining device for holding said sheets on thecircumference of thedrum and successively dropping them forexhibition, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
