HILAND II. KENDRIOK, OF FULTON, NEW YORK.
STRAW-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,972, dated September 9, 1890.
Apnlication filed November 26, 1889. Serial No. 331,670- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HILAND H. KENDRIOK, of Fulton, in the county of Oswego, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Straw-Gutters, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to straw-cutters, and especially to the construction of reversible feed-boards or feed-tables therefor, made reversible, so that the table can be changed over to feed from either the right or left hand side.
My object is to produce a skeleton frame double-faced reversible feed-board with a removable or changeable back, and which will not interfere with the driving-belt, and which will enable a person to feed from the righthand side, then reversing the feed-board on the back and changing the driving-pulley over to the other end of the shaft to feed from the left-hand side.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claims hereto annexed. It is constructed as follows, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the feedboard and throat of the machine. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the feed-board on line m as, Fig. 1.
A is the feed-board, consisting of two outer face-boards 1, and spacing blocks or strips 2 between and separating them, and having along and through one edge a series of holes 3, through which the removable dowel-pins 4 are passed, and having a swell on the outer edge, increasing the width of the rear end of the board.
B is the throat of the machine, and its bottom board meets the feed-board, substantially as shown.
C is the removable back, provided with holes receiving the pins 4, which are secured in the back in any ordinary manner.
D is the driving-shaft, upon which the drivepulley 5 is removably mounted, and the dotted 1ines 7 indicate the belt.
The dotted lines in Fig. 1 indicate the frame supporting the feed-board and throat, and screws can be inserted in the holes 6 to secure the feed board, if desired.
To reverse the feed-board, so that'I can feed from the other side of the machine, I first take off the back, lifting the dowel-pins from the holes in the board, then loosen the board if it is secured to the frame, turn it over, throwing the widened or swelled side the other way, put on the back, and again screw the board to the frame, if desired. I then change the drive pulley and belt over to tbe other end of the shaft, and the belt will again run along the straight edge of the feed-board. The swell enlargement widens out the rear portion of the board, and thus permits the operator to better handle and arrange the material to be out before it is fed.
That I claim as my invention is- 1. A reversible feed-board for a straw-cutter, consisting of two faced boards having spacing-blocks between them and provided with a straight edge and a swell along the other edge, widening the rear portion of the board and provided with holes through it along the straight edge, and a removable back provided with dowel-pins fitting into the holes in the board, as set forth.
2. The combination of a reversible feedboard having two working-faces having one edge straight and the other edge swelling outward, widening the rear portion of the board, and having holes through it adjacent to the straight edge, a removable back provided with dowel-pins fitting into the holes in the board, with the drive-shaft of a strawcutter, and a drive-pulley arranged to be shifted upon the shaft to carry the drivingbelt upon the opposite side of the board when reversed.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my In presence of- H. P. DENISON, ARVIN RICE, EMMA Courts.
