UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREELAND IV. OSTROM, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
METHOD OF SECURING ANCHORS WITHIN CAKES F SOAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,946, dated September 9, 1890. Application filed November 16 1889. Serial No. 330,574- (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
new and useful Improvements in the Method of Securing an Anchor WVithin a Cake of Soap; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has reference to the method of securing an anchor within a cake of soap, with the end in view of attaching any suitable chain or the like to said anchor for the purpose of aifording a means for securing thesoap as against theft.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation showing a pair of dies in operation and a block of green soap lying upon the lower die preparatory to being compressed around the anchor, the end of the latter extending beyond the said block; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the block of soap compressed into the form of a cake around said anchor; Fig. 3, a plan of the die-box within which the dies are operated; Fig. 4, a detail sectional elevation of the block of green soap with the anchor thrust therein preparatory to compression, and Fig. 5 a detail sectional elevation of the cake of soap compressed around the anchor.
Similar letters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
A is the upper die, of any suitable shape, and secured, as by a set-screw B, to the ordinary plunger 0.
D is the die=box mounted on a bed E and having a vertical groove F.
G is the lower die within said box, and H is the-usual drive-rod beneath said die, and
by means of which the latter may be elevated within the box.
In preparing the soap for compression between the dies the anchor I is thrust through a block K of soap, so that the hook or eye .I projects beyond said block, the soap being of course in a green and plastic state. A block of soap thus provided with an anchor is placed upon the lower die with the anchoreye extending in a vertical plane with the groove F, as is clearly shown at Fig. 1. The dies are now operated by the ordinary powerpress mechanism (not shown) to compress the soap around the anchor within the diebox into the form of a cake L, as shown at Figs. 2 and 5. While the soap is being carried by the dies the eye J will travel unobstructed within the groove F.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The method of securing an anchor within a cake of soap, the same consisting in thrusting said anchor within a block of green soap and then compressing said block into the form of a cake within a confined space, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
