Description
(No Model.)
J. O. PEARCE.
SELF ACTING PIN PUSHER FOR MINING CARS. No. 435,653. Patented Sept. 2, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN COXVAN PEARCE, OF ELK GARDEN, VEST VIRGINIA.
SELF-ACTING PIN-PUSHER FOR MINING-CARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 435,653, dated September 2, 1890.
Application filed April 21, 1890. Serial No. 348,878. (No model.)
It all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN CowAN PEARCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elk Garden, in the county of Mineral and State of West Virginia, have invented a certain new and useful Se1f-ActingPin-Pusher for Mining Cars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to mining-ears, and has for its purpose to open the end gate or door automatically.
Figure 1 of the drawings is an end elevation showing the end-gate in connection with my improvement, and Fig. 2 a detail perspective view of the elevator.
In the drawings, A represents the end-gate of the car hinged at the top and provided with the usual bolt B, which works in the eye or keeper 0 on the cross-beam D. The bolt B is provided at one side with an arm I), to which I pivot the upper end of a pusher-rod E. The bolt or pin B is usually driven out with a sledge or hammer by hand, and for that purpose is provided with the turn-over bat the top. The eyes or keepers a a on the car-door serve to hold and guide the pin.
F represents the tipple, on which the mining-ears are run before they are unloaded.
G is the elevator which I employ in connection with the pusher, and which has the incline g, up which the pusher moves, gradually raising the pin or bolt until it has left the keeper 0. The elevator G is angled at g g g", so as to fit about the nipple-beam H, and is provided near its ends with the holes g 9 so that it may be securely fastened with bolts.
I is a ring which swings in a staple J in the end gate at sufficient height to allow the pusherE to be passed through it when it has been raised. The pusher is thus out of the way until wanted.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a side-armed pin or bolt B on the end-gate of a car, a pusher E, pivoted to said side arm, and a swinging ring I, as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the side-armed bolt B, a pusher E, attached to said side arm, and the inclined elevator G, made fast to the tipple, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN COlVAN PEARCE.
Witnesses:
