SEPARABLE BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 434,177, dated August 12, 1890.
Application filed June 14:, 1890. Serial No. 355,507. (No model.)
which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in theimproved construction and arrangements of the parts of the stud, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the stud. Fig. 2 represents thehead and post in elevation and the shoe in central section, taken in the plane 00 x of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 represents a plan view of the shoe with the perforated front plate removed to show the internal mechanism of the shoe. Figs. 4 and 5 represent plan views of the opposite catches of the shoe. Fig. 6 represents an edge view of the catch shown in Fig. 5.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the head of the stud; B, the post, provided at its lower end with the annular groove a, which is adapted for engagement with the catches (J O of the shoe. D is formed of the plate b,which is struck up with a rim f, the supporting-plate c, which is struck up with the raised posts d d d, which serve to support the front plate 6, the several parts being secured together by turning over the edge of the rim f. The plate 0 is also provided with a perforation g, adapted to'reccive the lower end h of the post B.
The catches O C are each provided with a semicircular recess 1', adapted to clasp the post B within the annular groove a, and with The shoe the opening j adapted to receive the end of the spring 70, the catch 0 being also provided with a tooth Z, while the opposite catch 0- is provided with a recess m, adapted to receive the said tooth, the said catches being adapted for a limited opposite turning movement upon the struck-up posts dd-,which also serve to support the front plate e, having a central perforation r. The catches C C are also provided with an arm n, which projects outwardly through an elongated openingo in the rim f. Then the post B is in locked engagement with the catches C O, by pressing the projecting arms n n of the catches C O toward each other the inner ends of the catches will be thrown apart, so as to release the post B, and thereafter the said catches will be brought back to their original closed position by the resilience of the spring j.
I claim as my invention- The combination,\vitli the head A and post B, of the shoe D, provided with the plate I), having a perforated rim f, the centrally-perforated supporting-plate 0, provided with the posts at d, the catches O O, turning upon the posts cl (Z, and provided the one witha recess m and the other with a tooth 1, adapted to enter the recess, and with an arm n projecting through the perforation in the rim, the spring j, and the centrally-perforated front plate 6, substantially as described.
. ASA CUSHMAN.
