UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH N. BROVN, OF FARWELL, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK E. PRESLEY, OF SAME PLACE. i
HAND WEIGHING-TRUCk.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 432,597, dated July 22, 1890.
Applicationviled October 25, 1889. Serial No. 328,148. (No model.)
To all whom it may con/cern.:
Be it known that I, JOSEPHv N. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Farwell, in the county of Clare and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Veighing- Trucks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to weighing handtrucks; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, as hereinafter described and claimed.v
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of a hand-truck provided with my improvements, portions of the platform being broken away. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line o: n". of Fig. l. Fig. 3 represents arear end view of the truck. Fig. 4. is an interior view of the register, the dial being mostly broken away. Fig. 5 is a section taken on line y y of Fig. 4.
The frame of the truck consists of the side bars A, which are extended to form the handles B, and the cross-bars o, c', and c2. A central rod b is iixcd to or in the said crossbars, and on said rod are placed the springs d. Two other rods d d2 are fixed to the bars a a2, and have springs placed on them, as shown. The platform C of the truck isv loosely connected with the frame bymeans of the perforated angle-irons c, which Vare fastened to the lowerv side of the platform and are loosely connected with the rods I) d cl2, which are passed through perforations inV placed on the central rod b just below the" cross-bar a, the said block resting on a spring d and having vertical movement on said rod.
Two levers i are pivoted to the side bars A, one being secured to each side bar and extending across the frame. nearly to the oppo* site bar A. These levers t' are connected by the short strips nv with the platform C on the under side, and are provided at their free ends with hooks which are connected by rods m with the movable block h.
E indicates the casing of a registering device, which is secured to a curved bar F and is provided with a dial on which move the indicating-hands o. Vithin the casing is mounted a central shaft p, which carries a ratchet-wheel q, the hubV of which is provided with ratchet-teeth r. A pinion S is loose on the shaft p, and a sleeve u on said shaft extends forward from said pinion and carries one of the indicating-hands o, the other hand being carried by the shaft p. The long hand indicates on. the dial the weight of a load and the other the number of loads weighed. A segment-gear t is pivoted in position to cngage the pinion s, and is connected by a rod u with a slotted bar w, which is connected at o with a cross-bar of the frame, the other end of said bar 'lo being connected with the block 7L. A pawl s', which is connected with the pinion s, engages the shaft j) by its con nection with the ratchet-teeth 7', an d a springpawl y, connecting with the ratchet-wheel q, prevents a backward movement of the shaft p. The pawls s and y may be raised from the teeth o" on the hub of wheel q and pinion s by means of a spring-rod to', a button z on the outer end of said rod being pressed.
I claiml. In a weighing-truck, the combination, with a frame and a movable platform, of a central rod, which is iixed to said frame and looselyv connected with said platform, the spring on said rod, a perforated block placed loosely on said rod and supported by said spring, two levers which are pivoted to the side bars of the frame, the strips which conneet the said levers with the platform, two rods which connect the free ends of said levers with said perforated block and a registering device, a slotted bar tu, which is pivoted to the frame and connected with said perforated block, and the rod which connects roc the registering meehanism with the slotted fi fi, and the pivoted strips n n, as and for the bau' fw, substantially is and for the purposes purpose set Vfori-h.
described. In testimony whereof I have affixed my sig- 2. The combination, with the platform C nature in presence of two witnesses.
and the registering mechanism, of the eonf JOSEPH N. BROXVN.
