Description

(No Model.)
' P. A. FAZIO.
STEAM GENERATOR FURNACE.
No. 430,471. Patented June 17, 1890.
nllllilill I w: nmims PEYENS cu, mow-um UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCESCO AMOROSO FAZIO, OF VENICE, ITALY.
STEAM-GENERATOR FURNACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,471, dated June 17, 1890).
Application filed October 11, 1889.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCESCO AMOROSO FAZIO, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Venice, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Generator Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a construction of steam-generator fire-place for burning liquid fuel, such as vegetable oil or any other fixed or fatty oil.
In the accompanying drawings, m aking part of this specification, Figure Iis avert-ical section of a furnace embodying my invention. Fig. II is a horizontal section of a fire-place. Figs. III and IV are end and side views, to a larger scale, of one of the revolving wickframes. Fig.,V is a cross-section through a boiler such as may be used with my furnace. Fig. VI represents the air inlet or register. Fig. VII isa vertical section of a steam-generator provided with my invention. Fig. VIII is a section showing a modification of my invention.
V isatank containing the combustible vegetable oil.
B is a pan which is kept supplied with oil through a pipe I), guarded by a cock 0.
C are cylindrical frames or cages having radially-arranged wicks a, of amianthus or asbcstus. Each frame is so supported in suitable bearings by horizontal shaft 1' that the for-the-time-beinglower ends of the wicks dip into the oil, as shown in Figs. I, III, and IV. The frames C are slowly rotated by a suitable prime mover A, which communicates with the shafts i through a suitable transmit- $erial No. 326,752. (No model.)
ter. The oil-level in pan B may be kept aut0- matically uniform by means of a customary float or ball-cock. A register T enables discretional admission or exclusion of draft-air. The rotation of the wick-cylinders may be initiated by an auxiliary engine A, and afterward maintained by the engine which is driven from the steam-generator. The frames C, with their amianthus wicks, plunge in the oil the depth necessary to regulate combustion. The fire-place may have a circular, rectangular, or other form of horizontal section.
Among the advantages of my new fireplace are: The securing of a continuous automatic fuel-feed, which permits the regular production of steam, perfect combustion, and consequent economy of fuel and avoidance of smoke, soot, and ashes, ease of extinguishment by closure of register T, the best distribution of flame and consequent efficient utilization of heat, the rendering such generators available essentially in countries destitute of coal and timber, economyin labor by diminishing the number of persons employed.
I claim A steam-generator furnace consisting of the combination, with a steam-boiler, of a pan for holding vegetable oil and cylindrical frames bearing radial wicks of amianthus, which are caused to dip in said oil by rotation of said frames,.as and for the purpose set forth.
FRANCESCO AMOROSO FAZIO.
