PETER MOMENAMIN, OF JERSEY CITY, NEIV JERSEY.
TICKET-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 429,148, dated June 3, 1890. Application iiled February 24, 1890. Serial Nu. 341,511. (No model.) A
i railway-passenger tickets.
The object of my invention is to supply the necessity felt by the traveling public of a simple, cheap, and effective device for holding and exposing to the view of the conductor as he passes through the cara railroad ticket or pass and to provide a ticket-holder susceptible of ready attachment to the coat or other wearing-apparel, or to the back or other upholstered portion of a car-seat at a conspicuous point.
It is also my object to provide a collapsible ticket-holder, or one that when not in use can be folded into a small space for convenience in carrying the same in the pocket.
In the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation in perspective of my ticket-holder. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my ticketholder folded; and Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line a: :n of Fig. l, showing ticket in position.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, A denotes the body portion of my ticket-holder, formed of a sheet-metal strip having aflange c turned up on its upper edge, which, as shown in Fig. l, is cut or separated at either end from the body A to form dependent springs c c.
B B are spring-clasps, formed of narrow sheet-metal strips, pivoted at b b to the body A. Said clasps B B are doubled upon themselves or bent to form a loop and springtongue, as shown in Fig. 3. The free end of each tongue is bent outwardly in a curvilinear line from their point of contact to form open jaws at d. The strip A and springs c c are made of one piece of sheet metal, and may be stamped out and formed up by a suit-- able die.
As shown in Fig. l, the clasp B is pivoted to the body A near thelower edge of the saine, while the clasp B is pivoted near the upper edge of said body. This construction allows the clasps to be folded into position without interference, the strip B being first folded in position. The springs c c serve to hold the spring-clasps open. They bear upon the inner elongated ends of said clasps when unfolded or opened, as shown in Fig. l. To
hold the clasps closed, the strips forming the same are bent or curved rearwardly, as shown in Fig. 3, and when folded said curved or bent portion acts as a spring to keep the clasps in position on body A. As shown in Fig. 3,this curve or bend in the strips B B serves also to incline rearwardly the ticket or the part or coupon E of the same in use, thereby affording the conductor a better view and enabling him to inspect, punch, or remove the same with greater ease. The loops formed in the clasps or strips B B serve to strengthen the tension of the springed tongue, and the space within the loop serves to accommodate or hold the folded or unused portion of the ticket. Y
To fasten the ticket-holder to the clothes or upholstered portion of acar-seat, I use an ordinary safety-pin attached to the back of the body A by cutting or stamping out from said body dependent tongues, as Ishown in Fig. l, and bending the same to form bearings for the safety-pin, as shown in Fig. 3.
It is evident that my ticket-holder may be used for other articles. be used as a badge-holder for ribbon badges, in which case the body portion could be given a highly-ornamental iinish.
Having shown and described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A collapsible ticket-holder provided with two ticket-clamping arms formed of narrow sheet-metal strips doubled upon themselves to form a loop and spring-clamp, said arms being pivoted one to each end of the body portion of the ticket-holder and adapted to be folded in a plane parallel with said body portion, substantiallyas shown and described.
V9. A ticketholder having the body portion consisting of a iiaugcd narrow sheet-metal For instance, it could IOO strip having dependent springs formed at each In testimony whereof I affix my signature in end of said Hang-e and provided with tieketpresence of two Witnesses. clamping arms pivoted at either end thereof and adapted to he folded inwardly upon said PETER MCMENAMIN. body portion and retained in position thereon XVitnesSes:
open by said springs, substantially as shown PETER MGCABE,
and described. JAMES ADAMS.
