SHAKING-BOLT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,147, dated June 3, 1890.
Application filed February 14, 1890. Serial No. 340,465. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MINER G. MOSHER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaking- Bolts, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings and the letters and figures of reference thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is aside elevation of the sieve and of a mill from whence it receives its motion. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the sieve. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 4. is a detail cross-sectional view of a portion of the sieve at the place where the second delivery-spout is arranged. Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal View of a detail portion of the sieve at the same deliveryspout; and Figs. 6, 7, and S are detail top plan views of the three graded sections of the sieve. 1
This invention relates to certain improvements in sieves or shaking-bolts for separating the bran from crushed or ground grain and grading and separately depositing each grade of the flour thereof into its respective receptacle; and iteonsists of the particular construction and arrangement of parts, as set forth and explained in the following specification and claims.
Referring to the drawings, the sieve is represented as consisting of a spirallyformed trough 0, having a rounded bottom and provided with the vertical sides F.
C, O, and C are equidistant partitions fixed across the interior of trough O and extending to the lower plane of the sides F. (See Figs. 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8.)
The bolting-screens are represented at 1,2, and 3, which are arranged and secured across the trough O at the base of the sides F, (see Figs. 3 and 4, also Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8,) a section for each divided trough-section O, of which the finestsection 1 is for the top or first trough-section, (shown in Fig. 6,) the medium-grade section 2 for the center troughsection, and the coarsest-grade section 3 for the bottom or last trough-section. (Shown in Fig. 8.) At the terminal of each trough-section 0, adjacent each partition 0 O 0 is a delivery-spout communicating with the trough and extending from the sieve, as shown, respectively, at g, g, and
D represents the sieve-pedestal, which is secured to the floor where the machine is used, and is provided with the round standard D.
h h are two hubs sleeved on standard D, respectively at the bottom and top thereof, and are provided with radial arms {1, which have fixed to their ends the vertical bars a, to which is secured the inner side Fof the sieve, by which means the sieve is supported by the pedestal and standard in such manner that it may freely oscillate about the standard.
As a means of oscillating the sieve it is provided on one side with the eye Z, which is connected to a crank Z of the mill Athrough the medium of the pitman Z and motion is imparted to the said crank by means of the sweep S, through the medium of its connected shaft and the 'gearing mechanism G. However, other means may be employed to oscillate the sieve.
In arranging and securing the screen- sections 1, 2, and 3 their inner side is placed lower than their outer side, thus inclining them radially toward standard D, for the purpose of preventing centrifugal action, when the sieve is oscillated, from throwing the unscreened flour and bran all to the outer side, and thus insure a more perfect distribution over the screen-surface.
In use the crushed or ground grain to be screened or bolted is delivered on the upper screen-section 1 by means of the endless carrier-apron J from the mill A, or by other suitable means, when the oscillating motion imparted to the sieve will cause the said crushed or ground grain to intermittently move down over the screens, and when passing over screen-section 1 the first quality of flour will be screened therefrom or bolted, deposited in the trough-section immediately below, and delivered from the trouglrsection through spout g to its receptacle placed below the spout, when, passing over screen-section 2, the second-quality flour is screened thereform and in like manner collected and delivered through the spout g to its receptacle below, and when passing the last screen-section 3 the third grade or quality of flour is screened therefrom in like manner, collected and delivered through the spout g to its receptacle below, and at the end of the said last section the bran is delivered off the screen end to its separate receptacle, and thus by the use of the graded bolting-screens the flour is bolted or screened and graded, as described.
In the drawings the mill is represented only for the purpose of providinga means of imparting motion to the sieve.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. The sieve described, consisting of the spiral trough 0, provided with the sides F F, the partitions G, C, and C the spouts g, g, and g and the graded screens 1, 2, and 3, arranged inclining radially toward the sievecenter, in combination with the standard D D, and the pivotal support consisting of the hubs h h, the radial arms (1, and the bars 91, and means for oscillating the sieve upon and about its standard, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the standard D D and the oscillating sieve -supporting frame thereon, of the spirally-formed trough 0, provided with the vertical sides F F, the equidistant partitions C, C, and 0 extending u pward to the base of the sides F, and the spouts g, g, and g respectively leading down and outward from adjacent each said partition at the terminal of each trough-section, of the graded bolting- screen sections 1, 2, and 3, respectively arranged spanning the said trough-sections on a plane with the partitions C, O, and C and means for oscillating the sieve, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In combination with a central vertical pivotal support, the sieve or bolting-screen consisting of the spiral trough O,partitioned, as at O, O, and O to be in separate sections, the spouts g g 9 leading from the terminal of said sections in respective order, the graded screens 1, 2, and 3, arranged across the trough-sections in their respective order on a plane with the trough-partitions, and the vertical sides F F, extending above the screens, wherein flour is bolted in grades and each grade separately confined and deposited in its respective receptacle, substantially as set forth.
