DUST-COLLECTOR FOR THRASHiNG-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 429,018, dated May 27, 1890.
Application filed January 25, 1890. Serial No. 338,087 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1. WILLIAM H. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Dorado, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Dust- Oollector for Thrashing-lVIachines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dust collectors for thrashing-machines; and it has for its object to provide a device of this class which shall be simple in construction, durable, and which may be easily attached to any thrashing-machine of ordinary construction for the purpose of extracting the dust and conveying it to some suitable place of deposit.
WVith these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved dust-extractor. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line a: or in Fig. 2.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
The frame of my improved dust-extractor is composed of the side pieces 1 1, both of which are provided with beveled or tapering ends, as shown at 2 2, upon which the inclined top pieces 3 3 are secured. The ends of the side pieces 1 1 are connected by the end pieces 4. The side pieces 1 1 are provided with central recesses 5 5. 6 designates a fancase mounted in the said recesses, as shown. The
sides of said fan-case are provided with the inlet-openings 7, and the discharge-openingS of said fan-case extends on one side of a supporting-casing. The inclined top pieces 3 3 are provided adjacent to the sides of the fancase with removable lids 9 to afford access to the interior of the casing for the purpose of inspection. The sides 1 1 are connected adjacent to the sides of the fan-case by crosspieces or braces 10 10, upon the upper sides of which are mounted boxes 11, forming bearings for the shaft 12, carrying the fan 13, which is of ordinary construction. The inclined top pieces of the casing are provided with openings let, through one of which the fan-shaft is permitted to project, the projecting end of said fan-shaft being provided with a pulley 15. Pivoted covers 16 are mounted adjacent to the openings 14, in order that the opening through which the fan-shaft does not project may be temporarily covered.
17 designates a tubular conveyer, which is mounted upon the discharge end of the fancasing for the purpose of conveying the dust to some suitable place of deposit.
The operation of this invention and its advantages will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The device is mounted upon a thrashing-machine, and may be driven from any convenient pulley of such machine. The dust, by the suction produced by the fan, is caused to enter the fan-case through the openings 7, and is expelled through the opening 8, and is then conveyed through the conveyer 17 to some suitable place of deposit. The general construction of the device is simple in its construction and it is not liable to get out of order.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination of the frame having inclined top pieces provided with openings, the fan-case mounted in said frame, journal-boxes supported by the latter, and the reversible shaft mounted in said boxes and extending through the opening in one of said inclined top pieces, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the frame having inclined top pieces provided with openings, the covers mounted pivotally adjacent to said openings, the fan-case mounted in recesses in the sides of the frame, the transverse braces connecting the said sides, and the reversible shaft j ournaled in boxes upon the said braces and extending through the opening in one of the inclined top pieces, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
