LDIVIGr IIABEILIIAM, OF LEIPSIC, SAXONY, GERMANY.
CARILLON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,207, dated May 90, 1890.
Application iiled August 28, 1889. Serial NO: 821,744.
(NO model.)
To all Z077J0772/ L't mag concern:
Be it known that I, LUDWIG IIABERICAM, a Subject of the King of Sartony, residin g at the city Of Leipsic, Saxony German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carillons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to means for the mechanical playing of gongs or bells, in which by the lifting of a valve, beSides the sound produced by lifting of the valve, a gong or hell is struck.
The invention consists in an arrangement of ham mers Swin ging freely on' a shaft, which hammers are impelled against the bells by striking lovers, and Of a frame which oper ates on all the hannners and can move them so far from the striking lovers as to render contact between harnmers and levers impossible.
In the accompanying drawings Figure is a top view; Fig. 2, a section taken through the keys, together with a view Of the peal of bells placed behind; Fi g. 3, a side view with key not struck, and Fig. 4: a side view with struck key.
On plate Ct are Fixed two standards h, carrying Shaft 0, on which the gongs CZ are 1nounted, also shaft (2, on which the hannners f are mounted. l`hese extend to the valves and have eyes p, by which they are carried on shaft c,so as to allow Of their free motion round the same. l`hey are consequentlyitnpelled against the gongs Cl upon the aseent of Valves g. On each of the standardsbthere is also a pivot h, on which a frame may be turned by means of lever 76. The frame L' acts upon that part of the haininers f which projects beyond shaft 6, so that when pressed down through lever 7x' the hammers are so raised that the valves g cannot come in com tact with them. In order for the time being to fix the frame t in the desired position, there is arranged on one of the standards b 'a spring m, furnished with lng 'I't, which hears against france 'I and so keeps it in its place. Phe hammers f` are formed With extensions, which act sound-dampers, theybeing covered over With cloth and bent to such a shape as Will permit of their lying against the gongs upon the deseent of the hammers.
Small Springs okeep the hammers f pressed against the valves g when the frame is not turned down. In Figs.. 3 and 4: the position ot' theham rnersf, when moved away trom valves g by frame 73, is shown in dotted lines; hence it will be seen that Valves g may perform any desired Stroke without coming in contact With the hammers, so that however energetically the keys may be struck the gon gs will not sound.
Having now particularlydescribed and as certained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is-- 1. The hannnersff, mounted on Shaft c,in combination with Valves g g and with gongs Cl CZ on shaft c, for the purpose specified, substantially as described and shown.
2. The frame r, in combination with hainmersff and Shaft e, for the purpose specified, substantially as described and shown.
In testinrony whereof I sign this specification in the presence Of' two subscribing witnesses.
IAUDIVIGr llAlilllK/Xill.
