SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,573, dated May 13, 1890.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, AMABEL G. E. HOPE, a citizen of England, now residing at \Vayland, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables for Application to the Berths of Navigable Vessels; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a front view, and Fi g. 3 a transverse and vertical section, of a table of my invention and a portion of a ships berth, showing the application of the table thereto.

The nature of my invention is defined in the claim hereinafter presented.

In the drawings, A denotes a portion of the front of a ships berth, against the face of which is arranged a table l3, rectangular in shape and surrounded by an upwardly-extending rim a, as shown. To one of thelonger sides of the said rim are secured hooks b I), which are formed to extend over the edge of and down against the inner face of the front of the berth and support the table in a horizontal position against the outer face thereof. To the under side of the table is hinged at Z one or more arms 0, each arm having jointed to it near its free end one end of a rod c, the f rec end of said rod being hooked to connect to an eye or socket f,secured to the under side of the table. \Vhen the said hooks b l) are applied to the edge of the berth, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings, and thearms c are turned down and bear against the front of the berth by the rods 6 being hooked into the eyes or sockets f, said arms and rods and their connections to each other and to the table constitute braces (J, which securely support the table against the berth and relieve the hooks l) bfrom strain. lVhe'n the table is detached from the berth, the braces or supports c can be folded against the under side thereof and secured thereto, if desired, by a u button or other suitable device. The table is also provided with a circular opening d to receive and sustain a drinking-glass.

The table hcreinbet'ore described is very useful for travelers, as it can be conveniently carried in a trunk with other articles, and is ready for use when required.

I make no claim to the devices for attaching a crib to a bedstead, as shown in United States Patents No. 113,382, dated April 4, 1871, and No. 123E847, dated January 14, 1873.

Having described my invention, what I claim is p The table B, provided with the circumscribing rim a, and the hooks b, fixed to it, one or more arms 0, hinged to the table, and one or more eyes f, fixed thereto, the rod 6, jointed to the free end of each arm 0, adapted to connect at its other end to the eye f, intended to receive it, or to fold with the arm to which it is jointed against the under side of the table as explained.
