UNITED STATES PATENT Orr cE.
AUGUST B. .DRAUTZ, OF STUTTGART, VURTEMBERG, GERMANY.
SHOE-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,567, dated April 15, 1890.
Application filed August 20, 1889- Serial No. 321,437- (No model.)
To all whom it vnay concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST B. DRAUTZ, a citizen of the Kingdom of lViirtemberg, Germany, residing at Stuttgart, in lViirtemberg, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Fastenings for Shoes, Gloves, tc, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to form a fastener for shoes, gloves, and slippers by means of which these articles of clothing may be rapidly fastened at one pull and undone (opened) with equal facility, and which has the further quality of adapting itself to any form of the body to be covered;
In the annexed drawings this fastener is shown as attached to a shoe, and- Figure 1 represents afront elevation of the fastener; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the fastener secured to a shoe; and Figs. 3 to 7 show details.
Along the edges of the flaps of the shoe S, which are to be fastened together, are secured spiral springs s, or other suitable liners are sewed into the leather, by means of which very elastic, although resisting, ridges A and A are formed, which readily adapt themselves to any form of the portion of the body to be covered. Around these two ridges A and A pass clamps b I) Z), &c., which are so secured to two strings on and a that on the string a, which is to effect the fastening, Fig. 3, the clamps h to are fastened at certain fixed intervals, while the other string a which is to be used in loosening the fastening, passes freely through holes in the clamps Z) to I), and is secured only to the end clamp Atthe other ends of the strings co and a are the buttons K and K respectively, which are used to adjust and secure the fastening. At the lower ends of the two ridges A and A there is an eye 0, through which the string a passes. hen the fastening is secured, the button K is against this eye and prevents afurther rise of the clamps I) 11011 The fastening is performed by pulling upon string a, and raising the clamps until the button K is againstthe eye 0.
In order to prevent the loosening of the fastening, the upper end of the closing-string 5 a is secured around two heads on the ends of the spiral springs s, and is then passed through a slit in the end clamp Z2, so that the button it lies against the slit.
The unfastening is performed. by grasping 5 the button K and pulling on string a, by means of which the clamp If is pulled upon I), b upon h 850., all the clamps being thus pulled back.
I claim-- 1. A fastening device for shoes, gloves, and the like, consisting of the flaps provided with spiral springs at their edges, and a series of sliding clamps, and means, substantially as described, for operating said clamps, all in combination, substantially as described.
2. In a fastening device for shoes, gloves, and the like, the fastening-string having secured to it at intervals the fastening-clamps, in combination with an unfastening-string 7 attached to the uppermost clamp and passing loosely through the other fasteningclamps, in combination with the spiral springs secured to the edges of the flaps, substantially as de scribed. 7
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
