invented certain new and useful Improvei p r ments in Flows; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to improvements in seed-planters, and the novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claim, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved planter. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is aside elevation, partly in section, of the rear portion of the machine.

Referring by letter to the said drawings, E indicates a central longitudinal beam, which constitutes the main portion of the main frame.

D I) are lateral beams secured to the opposite outer sides of the central beam E, and between these lateral beams we secure a hopper A, having its spout II passing through the central beam.

G indicates handles, which may be of any ordinary construction, secured at their forward ends to the-central beam E, and B B are grass-rods, bowed as shown, with their forward ends secured to the central beam in advance of the hopper and their opposite ends secured to the handles.

F is a furrow-opener properly braced to the central beam of the main frame in front of the discharge-spout of the hopper, and G G are coverin -shovels arranged in rear of the hopper and secured, respectively, to the outer beams D.

R. indicates a reciprocating seedslide,which is provided with a dropping-aperture R and arranged beneath the central beam E and adapted to move across the throat of the hopper. This reciprocating slide has secured to one end a spring N, which has its opposite end secured to a depending arm a, secured to the central beam E, so as to hold the slide normally in a closed position within the 110pper. This slide has its rear end provided with an arm 0, rising vertically in rear of the main frame, for a purpose which will be presently explained.

L indicates bracket-arms secured at their forward ends to the central beam of the main frame, so as to furnish in their opposite ends bearings for the operating-wheel M. This wheel M is provided with an annular extension 1) on one side, as better shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The wheel is provided adjacent to its periphery on the side bearing the Q indicates a scraper or 00 verer, which may consist of a board of sufficient length. This board is secured to the main frame and the lateral beams thereof by yielding arms 2.

Z indicates a rotary agitator suitably journaled within the hopper, and has its shaft provided with a crank-arm, the wheel M having also a shaft provided with a crank-arm.

K indicates a pitman connecting the crankarm on the shaft of the wheel M with the shaft or crank-arm of the agitator.

The central beam is provided at its forward end with a elevis for the attachment of the draft.

From the construction illustrated it will be seen that when it is not desirable to use the machine as a planter the hopper may be removed from the frame, together with the lateral beams and operating-wheel, when a convenient plow may be had.
