Description

l' (No Model.) W. BATESON.
DOOR SUPPORTING VISE.
No. 423,719. Patented Mar. 18, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT lOFFICE.
WILLIAM BATESON, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR TO MARY BATESON AND ROBERT CAREY, OF SAME PLACE.
DOOR-SUPPORTING VISE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No) 423,719, dated March 18, 1890.
* Application ned July s, 1889. senti No. 316,775. (No model.) l
To aZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM BArEsoN, builder, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada,
have invented a certain new and Improved Door-SupportingVise, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to design a simple instrument which may be easily carj projecting from the said clamp and having On either side of it an expanding jaw designed to form a vise to grasp and support the door inserted between them, the whole being constructed substantially as hereinafter more.
particularly explained.
Figure l is a perspective view showing my device in operation. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the device.
In the drawings, A represents the bottom half of a clamp, and B the upper half, which upper half is pivoted at ct to the bottom half A. A centering-nger C projects, as indicated, from the bottom halfA of the clampA and has a blade formed on its end. On either side of this blade wings b, of equal length, project. Two arms D are pivoted on the clamp A, as shown, and the flaring jaws E, formed on the lends ot' the arms D, project 35 beyond the end of the centering-finger C. Between the inner ends of the arms D, I place a spring F, designed to hold the inner ends apart.l
G is a nut screwed on the end of a bolt pass- 4o ing through the clamps A B. Between these clamps and upon the said bolt I place a spiral 'sprin g H.
It will be noticed that my device is portable and mayV be easily fixed into position, as in- 45 dicated in Fig. l. In this case the clamps A B are screwed onto the table I, and the edge of the door J is pushed between the flaring jaws E, the sharpened centering-linger C entering the edge of the door, thus centering 5o it and holding it in posit-ion with the assistance of the jaws E, which are actuated by the spring F, as indicated.
What I claim as my invention is The clamp A B, provided with a suitable 55 bolt, nut, and spring, in combination with the pivoted arms D, actuated by the spring F, and having daring jaws E, projecting beyond the centering-fingerA C, which is fixed to the clamp, as shown, substantially as and for the 6o purpose specified. i
