UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM PLOWVBIGHT, OF BLANDINSVILLE, ILLINOIS.
BAN D-CUTTER AND FEEDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,629, dated March 18, 1890.
' Application filed November 9, 1889- Serial No. 329,744. (No model.)
and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Band-Cutter and Feeder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in band-cutters and feeders; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of myimproved band-cutter and feeder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section. Fig. 4 is a top plan view.
Referringto the drawings by letter, A designates a supporting-frame, in which I arrange the endless carrying-aprons B B, and between the said aprons I arrange the plates 0, having the longitudinal slots D, as clearly shown. A rotary knife E is arranged between the plates 0, and consists of a shaft F and a series of knives G, secured to the said shaft and projecting radially therefrom and adapted to pass through the slots D. The shaftF is journaled in the supporting-frame, and one end of the same is extended beyond the side of the frame and provided with a band-pulley H. A belt or band I passes around this pulley H and a similar pulley J on the end of the shaft of the upper apron B, and thereby transmits motion to the said apron. The lower apron receives its motion directly from the driving-wheel of the thrashing-machine, and a belt K extends from the roller 0f the said apron to the pulley H, so as to impart motion tothe rotary knife.
On the upper side of the supporting-frame, near the lower end of the same,I provide the standards L, the upper ends of which are bifurcated and provided with a series of transverse perforations M. J ournal-boxes N are mounted in the bifurcations and are held at any desired point of the same by pins 0, inserted through the said perforations above and below the said boxes. An endwise-movable shaft or rod P is mounted in the boxes Nand has a series of teeth Q depending from its said pin and its other end pivoted on a crankarm T at the upper end of a rotary shaft U, which is mounted in suitable hearings on the side of the frame. This shaftU is composed of two telescoping members V W, and is provided at its lower end with a pulley X, which receives motion from the roller of the upper apron through a belt or band Y.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the frame and the endless aprons arranged therein in alignment with each other, of the slotted plate between said apron s,the rotating shaft journaled across said plate, and the radial blades carried thereby and playing through the slots in the plate, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the frame, the aprons therein, and the standards L at the sides of the frame, said standards having bifurcated upper ends forming arms provided with perforations M, of the bearings N, adjustable vertically between said arms, pins O, passing through said perforations above and below the bearings, the rod P, sliding longitudinally in said bearings and having teeth A, and means, substantially as described, for impartinga longitudinal reciprocation to said rod, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the frame, the aprons therein, and the standards L at the sides of the frame, said standards having bifurcated upper ends forming arms provided with perforations M, of the bearings N, adj ust able vertically between said arms, pins 0, passing through said perforations above and below the bearings, the rod P, sliding longitudinally in said bearings and having teeth A and upwardly-projecting pin R, the telescopic rotating shaft U, journaled in the side of the frame, the crank T at the upper end thereof, and pitman S, connecting said crank and pin, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
XVILLIAM PLOWRIGHT.
'Witnesses:
MARIEN OUFFMAN, VVM. BLACKHURST.
