UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN LITHGOIV DENNISON, OF BBUNSYVICK, MAINE.
GLOBE FOR REGENERATIVE GAS-LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,416, dated March 18, 1890.
Application filed December 20, 1888. Serial No. 294,235. (No model.)
To all whom'zlt may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN LITHGOW DENNIsON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brunswick, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Globes of Regenerative Gas-Lamps, of Which said improvement the following is a specification.
The common regenerative gas-lamp is provided with a globe of glass and a globe-holder entirely inclosing the burnenwith the exception of openings at the top for the admission and exit of air, and sometimes the globe is provided with an opening, also, at the base, closed by a movable ball, through which opening the lighter is inserted from below to light the gas.
My invention is an improvement in said globe; and it consists in having the globe made thickerimmediately around the said opening than at any other point, and in making the opening concave in form, so that it shall be wider at the bottom than at the top, the objects thereof being the security of the globe and the more convenient use and guidance of the lighter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the globe and globe-holder of a regenerative gas-lamp and my invention connected therewith; and Fig. 2 represents the inven tion disconnected from said lamp, A being the globe and B the globe-holder, and the opening and movable ball being represented at the base of the globe the invention being shown by the dotted lines at the base.
In Fig. 2, which represents the'invention disconnected from the holder and lamp, A is the globe; O, the concave opening surrounded by glass thicker than other parts of the globe; and D is the movable ball, the objects of my improvements, as already stated, being to use the lighter more conveniently and expeditiously and with greater security to the globe.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved regenerative gas-lamp globe having an opening at its base to be closed by a movable ball, and being thicker immediately around said opening than at any other point, said opening being concave in form, so that it is wider at the bottom than at the top, all substantially as described and represented.
