To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. SHORT, of Buena Vista, in the county of Marion and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Separable VVagon-Body, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to improvements in wagon-bodies; and the object of .my invention is to provide a simple and convenient wagon-body of few parts that may be easily taken apart or put together by a single person, so that the bod y may be easily adapted to carry small truck or heavier articles.

To this end my invention consists in a wagon-body having two parts, so that the upper part may be easily lifted from the lower part, each part having its ends provided with horizontally-swinging end-boards at each end, said end-boards having their ends re-enforced by metal bands. This construction will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically point-ed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the wagon-body mounted upon a set of wheels. Fig. 2 is an end view of the wagon-body. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one end of the wagon-body, and Fig. 4 is a detail View.

The lower portion A of the body is pro vided with a suitable floor a, and with metal strips 1), which overlap the sides and are attached to the cross-bars beneath, so as to strengthen the body. The lower portion A is also provided at each end with an endboard B, which is strengthened at each end by a metal band d, which overlaps the end of the board, and by which is formed an eye d at each end of the board, through which the rod 6 passes to attach the board to the wagon-body. The upper portion A of the wagon-body is of the same length and width as the lower portion A, upon which it rests, but its sides are somewhat higher. It is provided at each end with endboards B, which are thinner than but otherwise ot the same construction as the endboards B, already described, and which are attached to the wagon-body by the rods 6.

The four corners of the parts A and A V are provided at each corner with ametal strip f, which is attached to the outside of said parts, and the ends of which are bent inwardly over said parts at the top and bottom thereof, thus forming inwardly-projecting ears f, between which the ends of the boards B and B are placed, and which are perforated to receive the rods 6. The rods 6, which are bent or formed with eyes at the top, so that they will be prevented from dropping through the wagon-body to the ground, pass downwardly through the ears f, through the ends of the end-boards B and B, and through the bottom of the body A. The end-boards B B will thus be pivoted by the rods e between the ears f, so that by removing one of the rods the boards may be swung horizontally upon the other rod. If a load of small truck is to be carried, the part A is placed upon the part A and fastened thereon by the rods e at the corners, which pass through the two parts, as described. If heavy articles are to be carried, the top portion A is removed and the rods 6 placed in the part A to hold the boards B in position, or separate shorter rods may be used. It will thus be seen. that the body A A may be quickly adjusted to the work it is to perform.

Having thus fully described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Aseparable wagon-body having two horizontal sections, each section being pro- .vided with end-boards, said sections being united at the corners, and the end-boards pivoted thereto by vertical rods which pass through projecting ears upon said sections and through the ends of the end-boards, substantially as described.

2. A separable wagon-body consisting, essentially, of the two parts A A, provided with strips f and ears f, the end-boards BB, having re-enforced ends d, and the rods 2, adapted to unite said parts, substantially as described.
