UNITED STATES ATENT DFFICE.
GEORGE HAUPT, OF SPRING HILL, MINNESOTA.
SASH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.421,706, dated February 18, 1890.-
Application filed August 21, 1889. Serial No. 321,486. (No model.)
To all whom it may con/067 m Be it known that I, GEORGE HAUPT, .a citizen of the United States, residing at Spring Hill, in the county of Stearn and State of Minnesota, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Holders and Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a combined window holder and fastener, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap, and efficient device for the purpose specified, and which can be secured to the side or the window or windowframe or set in a mortise in either.
The improvement consists of the novel features which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front View of a device of my improvement; Fig. 2, a reverse view of the case, the operating parts being removed. Fig. 8 is a front view, parts being broken away, of the case. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cam-lever. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modification.
The case A, preferably a cast-metal block having screw-openings a at its ends through which screws pass to secure the device to the window frame or sash, has recess B at one Both recesses B and C are formed in the same side of the block and open on the same edge thereof. The cam-lever D, placed in recess 13 and mounted on the stud b, which projects up fromthe bot-tom of said recess, has a lateral extension that projects through a curved slot bf in case A, and which is grasped when operating said lever. The spiral spring E,
placed in the circular recess 6 in cam-lever D, between said lever D and the bottom of the recess, has one end fastened to the case A and the other end secured to the lever D. The recess 6 in cam-leverD and spiral spring E can also be placed on the under side of the cam-lever. The lock-bolt F, arranged inthe recess 0 and having stem f, which works through an opening in the rear edge of the case, is provided with arm f which is adapted to extend through slot h in case A to be grasped when operating the said loclobolt. The spring mounted on the stem f and held between the bolt and the innerclosed end of recess 0 forces said belt out beyond the edge of the bar A.
The cam-lever D is forced out by spring E to engage with the window-frame and hold the window open in any-position. The lockbolt is provided to secure the window when closed. The case shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is designed to be placed against the side of the window or window-frame.
In Fig. 5 is shown a holder and fastenerin which the case is closed in on all sides, and which is adapted to be set in a mortise in either the window or window-frame.
I claim- 1. A combination window holder and fastener comprising a case having curved slot 1) and sloth, cam-lever D, and lock-bolt F, placed in the case, each being operated on by a spring,.the cani-leverD, having arm cl, which arm extends through slot 6, and the bolt F,
having arm f projecting through the slot h,
substantially as and for the purpose described. V
2. The herein shown and described window holder and fastener, comprising cast-metal case A, having recesses B and 0, slots b and h, and the stud h, the cam-lever having circular recess in its side mounted on stud b, and having an armd extending through slot 1), the spiral spring E, inserted in the recess in the said cam-lever, the lock-bolt F, having arm f and stem f, placed in recess 0, and having arm f projecting through slot h, and the spring 9, placed on stem f, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY STONEBRAKER, JOHN P. KRELYBURT.
