W. OTTO. RAZOR CLEANING DEVICE.
Patented Jen. 14, 1890..

l 'lo vention.
UNITED Srnrns VILLIAM OTTO, OF NEVARK, NEW JERSEY.
RAZOR-CLEANING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,547, dated January 14, 1890.
Application file@ August 24, 1889.
T0 all whom, it may concern:
-Be it known that I, NVILLIAM OTTO, a citizen of the United States, residing at.Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Razor- Cleaning Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invent-ion has relation to a razor-cleaning device for thoroughly drying razors after use. Y
It is Well known among those accustomed to the use of razors that the edge thereof is, in fact, a series of fine teeth-and by reason of any moisture left thereon said teeth rust and form a jagged edge, thereby rendering the edge of the razor harsh and unfit for use.
By my invention I propose to provide a device through which the razor may be passed after use and which will thoroughly remove all lather and moisture and leave the blade perfectly dry and free from any liability of a subsequent rusting. I
With these general objects in view my invention consists in a pair or a series of adjacent-ly-arranged parallel soft wiping rolls or bodies, the same being arranged in such relative position as to permit of the passage of the razor-blade therethrough.
In practice I prefer to construct the rolls or bodies of soft rubber and set the same close together, so that in the insertion of the blade the rubber is forced apart and impinges against each side of the blade sufficient to thoroughly eradicate all moisture, and thus dry the blade.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l represents a suitable case provided with drierrolls constructed in accordance with my in- Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
In practicing my invention I prefer to mount the driers side by side in a suitable box or housing; but, if desired, I may mount the same upon any suitable base, such having no material bearing upon my invention.
l represents a box, and 2 the bottoni thereof, at opposite sides of which are located the side walls 2P.
4 represents the side rolls, one of which is serial No. 321,833. (no model.)
located at each side of the box and at the lower corner thereof, and is provided with the upper convex surfaces 5 and the lower undercut portions 6, the outer sides of the rolls being' secured in any suitable manner tWeen the sides of the box, and the center roll has its opposite lower longitudinal edges cut away,^as at 9, to correspond with the inner lower edges of the side rolls. By this construction it will be apparent that triangular recesses are formed intermediate the/two outer rolls and the opposite side of the inner rolls, and into these recesses are inserted the backs of the razors to be dried, the blades thereof extending' up .between the convexed surfaces of the rolls. The heel of the razor is first `entered between the rolls and the handle drawn to the rear, and it will be apparent that all moisture, lather, tbc., will be left at the point of entrance between the rolls, and the razor emerge from the opposite end of the box in a thoroughly-dried condition.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a razor-cleaner, the combinat-ion,with a suitable base, of a series of longitudinallydisposed yielding rolls or bodies secured along theirA lengths to the base, substantially as specied.
2. In a razor-cleaner, the combination, with a base, of a series of yielding rolls or bodies arranged in juxtaposition and parallel to each other and secured along their lengths to the base and cut away at their lower'adjacent edges to adapt them for the interposition of the razor-blade, substantially as specified.
3. In a razor-cleaner, the combination, with a base, of opposite side rolls or bodies and a center roll or bod'y, all of which are formed of soft rubber and each cut away at their adjoining sides to form intermediate recesses for the reception of the razor, substantially as specified.
4. The combination, with a box, of opposite IOO soft-rubberro11s or bodies secured to the Sides In testimony that I claim the foregoing as and bottom of the box, and having, their inner my own I have hereto atxed my Signatu re in lo lower edges eut away and their upper faces presence of two Witnesses. eonvexed, and a central soft-rubber roll or y ,w
5 body impinging against the opposite rolls or VILLIAM O1 lo' bodies and having an upper eonvexed face VitneSsesand lower eut-awaysides agreeing' with those S. G. Z. IIERZINGER, of the side rolls., substantially as speeied. ADAM HERZINGER.
