O. WALSCHEID. EXTENSION CLAMP. FOR CLOTHES WRINGERS.
No. 419,483. Patented Jan. 14, 1890.

N. PETERS. Pbnln-L'nhagmpher. Washingfimh D.C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO W'ALSOHEID, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
EXTENSION-CLAMP FOR CLOTH ES-WRINGERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,483, dated January 14, 1890.
Application filed March 8, 1889. Serial No. 302,530- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO \VALSGHEID, of J ersey Oity,in thecounty of Hudson and State of New Jersey, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Clamps for Clothes- Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to an improved extension-clamp for clothes-wrin'gers, by which the wringer can be used with great facility with wash-tubs having walls of any thickness.
The object of this invention is to provide a clothes-wringer with an extension-clamp combining the properties of simplicity and cheapness of construction and facility of application.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a clothes- Wringer with my improved extension-clamp. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinalsection of the extension-clamp drawn on a larger scale; and Fig. 3 isa verticaltransverse section on line 00 :11, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
B of the clothes-wringer A. Into the grooved guide-piece D is placed an extension-slide E, which is also made of dovetailed cross-section, so asto correspond to the shape of the guide-groove cl. The extension-slide E is provided at its front end with a downwardlyextending bracket or head E, which is provided with an interiorly-threaded perforation for the screw-bolt F. The rear end of the thumb-screw F is swiveled to a clampingpiece G, which is provided at its upper end with a lug g, that is guided in a longitudinal groove g of the extension-slide E, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 3. The extension-slide E is secured to the guide-piece D bya clamping-screw E, as shown in Figs.- 1 and 3, said clamping-screw engaging depressions e at one side of the dovetailed extension-slide E, so as to rigidly'secure the latter after adj ustment to any partition or wall of a wash-tub, whatever its thickness, while the final adjustment is given by the adjustable clamping-piece G, as shown in Fig. 1. By interposing the extension -slide between the fixed guide-piece and the adjustable clamp my improved extension-olamp can be applied to any size or thickness of wall and to any kind of tub by simply adjusting, first, the extensionslide and then the clamp by means of its thumb-screw. A clothes-wringer with my improved extension-clamp is thereby adapted to be applied to any tub, whatever be the thickness of its partition or wall.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire ,to secure byLetters Patent 1. The combination, with the frame of a clothes-wringer, the standards of which are recessed at their lower ends, of horizontal guide-pieces having upright flanges at their front ends and bolt-shaped extensions at their rear ends extending through said standards and provided with nuts for clamping the guide-pieces to the standards, said guidepieces being provided on their under sides with horizontal dovetailed grooves, extension dovetailed slides movable in the grooves of said guide-pieces and provided at their front ends with dependent brackets and on their under sides with longitudinal grooves, setscrews in said guide-pieces for holding the extension-slides in fixed positions therein, clamping-screws extending through said brackets, and clamping-plates on the inner ends of said screws, said clamping-plates being provided at their upper ends with lugs which move in the grooves of the extensionslides, substantially as described.
2. A clamp for a clothes-wringer, consist-.
ing of a horizontal guide-plate provided with an upright arm at its front end, a bolt-shaped rear end having a nut and a dovetailed groove on its under side, an extension dovetailed slide adapted to slide in said (love tailed groove and provided with a dependmy invention I have signed my name in present bracket at its front end, a set-screw in once of two subscribing witnesses. said guide-piece for holding said slide in different positions thereon, and a clamping- OTTO VVALSCIIEID. 5 screw in said bracket, substantially as de- \Vit-nesses:
scribed. PAUL GOEPEL,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as MARTIN PETRY.
