Description

(Model.)
A. BOLDING. POKE YOKE.
15104419.138, Patented. Jan. '7,189O`.
m V llllllllllllllllllllllmlf IN VE N TOI? UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
ARCH BOLDING, OF SUMNER, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO H. A. MURPHY AND JOHN HARDY, OF SAME PLACE.
POKE-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,138, dated January '7, 1890.
Application filed July 24, 1889. Serial No. 318,600. (Model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARCH BOLDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sumner, in the county of Lawrence and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Poke-Yokes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in animal-pokes, and the novelty resides in the peculiar combinations and the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this speciiication, and in whichw Figure lis a perspective view of my improved poke. Fig. 2 is a like view from t-he reverse side.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in both views.
Referring now to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the stang, to which is pivoted the neck-yoke B, the said yoke being pivotally connected with the stang by means of a cross shaft or pin a, remov ably held in position by means of a removable pin b, having an opening in its end through which passes the said pin, the pin being connected to the yoke by a chain or cord c. On this pin or shaft between the bow and the stang are the blocks O, which serve to keep the stang substantially in the center of the space between the sides of the bow or yoke. The sides vot the yoke are provided with a series of holes, by means of which and the removable pin the size of the yoke may be increased or diminished when desired.
C is the breast-piece, from which extend the parallel arms A', between the free ends of which the end of the stangis pivoted upon a transverse pivot d.
B is a spring-brace connected at one end to the stang and at the other end provided with a spring-catch e, designed to engage under a keeper f on the breast-piece, a slot being provided beneath the keeper to receive the spring catch, as clearly shown. The
spring-brace is connected with the breast piece by means of the spring-arms D, of wire, which have their bights arranged in slots in the spring-brace and their ends secured in the breast-piece, as shown, the said ends passing loosely through openings in the said breast-piece and being sharpened, as shown, so that as the breastpiece is pushed forward by the animal the sharpened ends of the wires will prick him. The springcatch on the spring-brace has a turnedup end, which serves to limit its movement in one direction and prevents the withdrawal of the wires from their openings in the breast-piece, yet allowing free movement of the wires toward the animal.
That I claim as new isl. The combination, with the stang and the yoke pivoted thereto, of the breast-piece pivotally connected with the stang, and the spring-brace connected with the stang and carrying the wires, the ends of which pass loosely through the breast-piece, substantially as described.
2. rlhe combination, with the stang and the yoke pivotally connected therewith, of the breast-piece, the parallel arms on the breastpiece pivotally connected with the end of the stang, and the spring-brace connected at one end with the stang and at the other movably connected with the breast piece and carrying the pricking-wires, substantially as described.
The combination, with the stang and the yoke pivotally connected therewith, of the breast -piece, the parallel arms projecting therefrom and pivotally connected with the end of the stang, the spring-brace connected at one end to the stang and at the other end movably engaged with the breast-piece and carrying a catch having upturned end, a keeper for said catch on the breast-piece, and the wire arms connected with the springbrace and having their ends passed loosely 95 through the breast-piece, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
