This invention relaoes 110 track-cleaners for street-railways; but the improvemenrs (ran be usecl for other street-cleaners, if so desired.

two seetions, pivotally conneeted by a plate G, but; which cou1d be otherwise formed, so as to be flexible t0 pass around the curves of a oable road. Eaeh seeion of this guard 01 cover G has a eentral depending flange g, of a thiokness to enter the s1ot 0f a cable 10ad, and this gua1d 01 cover G effectually closes the c'able-slot against the entrance of the material caught and carried by the brooms 01 brushes. As shown, the forward end of the guard has a 1100k g for the attachment of a chain g, by which the guard. 01 eover is attaehed T0 the fran1e 01' ca'rriage of the brushes 01' broo1ns, so as t0 move with the brushes 01 broorns, and this guard 01 cover G is located and travels be- OWGI1 the delivery end 0f the brush A and the reeeiving end 0f the brush B and is 0f a lengnh t0 extend forward of the brush A and rearward 0f the brush B, as shown in Fig. 1.

The advance 01 forward brush A, by reason 0f its diagonal se, earries the dirt and dust caught by it inward to a point where they Will be taken by the reeeiving enrl 0f thebrush B anti be earried, together With the dust and dirt taken by the brush B,to the delivery endO 0f such brush B, where, by the W011I1 01 scro1l ation 0f the delivery end C, the dust and dirt will be carried around and discharged through the delivery-opening in the end head 01 eover 0f the hood D 0nt0 the conveyer-belt in the spout E.
The 1100(1D, inelosing the delivery end C, prevents the rotation of the brnsh fron1 throwing the dirt and dust outward, and this hood D, in connecriori with the olosing-strips 7c, Z, and m, forrns a receiver into whieh the dust and dirt are drawn by suetion ereated by the rotation 0f the delivery end O in the hoed D, which draws the air in at the 0pen end of the hood for eseape at the dischargeopening in the hood, and the extending 0f the strip k inward in front 0f the brush B insures the eatrying 0f the material t0 the delivery end and prevents the aetion of the brush from' throwing the duso and dirt forward.
The guard 01 covef G effectually cioses the eabie-slot and forms a bricige 0ver whieh the dust and dirt a1e carried, and ab the same time forn1s an effeetual guard against the entranee 01 admission 01: dust and dirt into the eable-slot, which is desirable and necessary, and by the use 0f this guard 01 cover G the employment 0f sweeping-maehines is provided f0r in connection with a cab1e road. \Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a street-eleaning machine having a forward b1ush and a rearward b1ush, the com bination, with the reanvard b1ush, 0f a deliv ery end theref0r having a worn1 0 scroll shape, whereby the material canght by the brushes is carried t0 the delivery end 0f the rea1 brush f01 disposition, substantially as specified.
2. In a street-eleaning ma0hine having a forward brush and a rearward brush, both standing diagonal t0 the travel 0f tl1e machine, the combination, With the rearward b1ush, 0f a delivery end therefor having a worm 01 S01011 shape f01 receiving the material gathered by b0th brushes and delivering the sa1ne, substantially as specified.
3. In a street-cleaning machine having a forward brush and a rearward bruSh, the co1nbination, With the rear brush, of a delivery end therefor having a worm 01 ser0ll shape and a hood inclosing the WOIH1 01 s01011 shape delivery end, substantially as and f01' th'e purpose specified.

In a street-cleaning mach1'ne having a forward anda rearward brush, the combinati0n, with tl1e rearward brush, 0f a delivery end therefor having a W0rm 01 scroll shape, a ho0d inclosing such delivery end, and a 0011- veyer-spout communicating with the hood and leading therefrom, substantially as and f01 the purposes speeified.
5. In a street-cleaning macl1ine, a brush 6. The combination With a brush B, having a delivery end O 0f a worm 01 scroll form, 0f a l100d D, inclosing the delivery end O, substantially as and f01 the purposes specified.
7. The combination, With a brush B having a delivery end C 0f a worrn 01S01301l shape, 0f a hood D, inclosing the delivery end C and having the closing-strip 7a 011 its forward edge, substantially as and f01 the purposes specified.
8. The combination, with abrush B, having a delivery end C 0f a W01111 0r scroll shape, 0f a hood D, inelosing the delivery encl O and having a closing-strip m 011 its 1ea1 edge, substantially as and f01 the pu1poses specified.
9. The combination, with abrush B, having a deliveryend C 0f a wenn 0r seroll shape, of a 1100d D, inclosing the delivery end C and having its end head provided With a closingstrip l, substantially as and f01 the purpos0s specified.
10. The combination, with a brush B, having a delivery end O 0f a worum 01 scr0ll shape, 0f a hood D, 111010Si11g the delivery end O, and a closing-strip 7c, extending the full length of the hood 011 the front slcle, substantially as and f01 the purposes specified.
11. The combination, With a brush B, having a delivery end C 0f a wo1n1 or scroll shape, of a hood D, inclosing the delivery encl C and provided with closing-strips 7c Z m 011 its front, end, and rear edges, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
12.1 The combination, with abrushA and a brush B, having a delivery end 0 of a worm IIO or scroll shape, 0f a hood D, inelosing the c1e-i livery end O and provided Wih inelosingstrips 70 Z m 011 is front, endand rear edges,- substantially as and for the purposes speeified.

In a. street-cleaning machine, 21 guard for elosing the S101; 0f a cab1e road, eonsisting 0f a f1011'0 and 1*ea1 section, ea.ch formed 0f a plate overlying the slot on both sides, an d each plate having a central depending flange to ener the slot, and a pivota1 connection between the two sections f01 forming 21 bridge f0r ehe s1ot, substanc-ially as specified.

The combination, with the brushes 0f 21 street-eleaning machine, of a guard G for the cable-s1ot, formed in two sections, eaoh having a centra1 depending flange, and the 0011- necting-piece G, pivocal1y connected so the sections of the guard f01 rendering the guard flexible and bridging the s1ot f0r the mate- 1ia1 130 pass thereover 1".10m the brushes, substantially as speeified.

In a street-cleaning machine having abrush Witha delivery end, the combination, with such brush, 0f a. hood inclosing the de- 1ivery end of Ehe brush on1y and leaving he balance of the brush unprotected, whereby the caught material will be delivered to 21 point of discharge ab the delivery end of the brush alone, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

In 21 street-cleaning machine, the 00mbinanion, With a brush having a de1ivery end, 0f a. hood inclosing only the delivery end amd provided With a hinged flap 011 its front side, whereoy the brush can be changed in its aetion by dropping the flap to forrn a deliverybrush and raising the flap 1:0 f01m 21 sweeping-brush, substantially as aud f0r the purposes speeified.
17. In a street-oleaning machiue having a brush With a delivery end, the combinaion, with such brush, of a 1100d inelosing the delivery end only and provided 011 ios front, outer end, and rear With flexible strips f01 e1osing the hood ab the bottom, substantially a and f01 the purposes specified.
18. 'lhe combination, With a brush B, having a delivery end, 0f a hood D, inclosing the delivery end and provided 011 ius f101111 side with vertically-standing scrapers operating t0 disoribute the material and insure the taking up thereof by the brush, substantially as specified.
